I spend a lot of time outdoors. I kayak, hike, bike, birdwatch, and love meeting all my wild neighbors. The year before Covid I also started taking surfing lessons.
I write and advocate for causes I care about and have had some successes. The circus no longer comes to my town, there's a beautiful preserved forest that does NOT have a cell phone tower, there's a large city park where ALL smoking is banned.....
My favorite issues are environmental, animal rights, and those concerning poverty and human rights. I think in another life I must have been a peasant in a peasant uprising.
This might seem odd but for fun I collect trash. My kayak often looks more like a garbage scow as I gather plastics and other trash while kayaking on the river and at the beach. I mostly just find trash but I've found some interesting stuff too, including something the bomb squad had to blow up on the spot. I'm still waiting to find either a briefcase full of half a million dollars of drug money no one claims or a chest of pirate's treasure sticking half out of a sandbar.
I love gardening... for wildlife, for food, for beauty, organically, and with native plants.

Strive to live a simple, nonmaterialistic, meaningful, and purposeful life. I'm a Luddite at heart, reminiscing about the halcyon days when we weren't overdependent on technology. I embrace sechel, not artificial intelligence, and modesty, not social media. 不患莫己知，求为可知也。"Don't fret about not being well-known; instead, strive to be worthy of being known" (Analects, book 4, verse 14). Jewish ideals inform and guide in all aspects of life. These include honesty; respect for the sanctity of all life, which includes being veg*n; not hurting people's feelings or saying negative things about them; shunning gratuitous hatred of those who think differently; giving others the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to do the right thing; concern for the vulnerable and the disabled; having a higher purpose in life, including work; and learning for the sake of learning, including from everyone! But people with similar values come from many paths in life, the ultimate expression of which is being a mensch or, as Confucius termed it, a jūnzǐ (君子), someone who sets an example through his or her actions, which speak louder than words.
Enjoy hiking, being in nature, lizard-watching, learning, artistic creativity, and dry and waggish humor (but not sarcasm). Introverted and sometimes lost in thought, but hopefully thoughtful in more ways than one! Look for ways to help others while avoiding self-serving feelings like validation and pride. Adventurous but also risk-averse.

I have a lot of creative and artistic traits, but I'm also athletic and love playing sports. That might not sound so strange, but I don't know a lot of people who are equally passionate about being both physically active and artistic. I just finished my undergrad in Colorado when I was 29 and moved to the Pacific Northwest in August 2012. Obviously, I was a "non-traditional" student. I got a late start because when I was younger, I thought that I was going to work in the music industry in some capacity. I considered going to recording engineering school and luthier's school (to build guitars) while playing music in a little garage band, but I eventually decided that getting a degree was the best option for me. Now, I have a great job working for a vegan company.
I LOVE music (especially indie folk/rock). I know that everyone says they love music, but it truly is my greatest passion. I have a HUGE and ever-expanding music collection, and I always get excited about sharing my favorite music with willing victims. I make great mixtapes. Err... CDs. One of my favorite things to do is go to shows at smaller, more intimate venues. I like to play mellow, finger-picked instrumental songs on my acoustic guitar. My main instruments are guitar and bass, but I'm also learning to play didjeridu and mandolin. I'm always trying to get better at photography, too. I tend to be drawn to creative people and love talking about music and their other artistic passions with them.
I love cerebral independent/foreign films, documentaries, and silly/intelligent comedies. I enjoy red wine and good beer, but it's pretty rare for me to have more than 1-2 at a time. I can't stand bars unless I'm there to see a band or comedian.
I'm an aspiring world traveler. Life is short, and I want to see as much of the world as I possibly can! It's so damn expensive, though.

truthfully:I have spent most of my previous life trying to fit in to a society that often does not truly understand me or my motivations. I once though that love truly could overcome all and found out that truth its self is the only thing that can't be overcome, and is often blind to the fact that one may be attracted to someone or that one may have fallen in love with someone that truly is not good for them. LOVE is RISKY; life is a fine balance between responsibility, risk, reward, romance and happiness. Ether a romantic or a fool: I believe that love or at the very least a good relationship can be found. I have not truly pursued any type of relationship since my divorce over ten years ago. Not due to lack of interest in the ladies or a resistance to romance but rather the realistic complications and responsibilities of being a single Dad who is committed to doing the best I can for my Kiddo (Son).
