I spend a lot of time outdoors. I kayak, hike, bike, birdwatch, and love meeting all my wild neighbors. The year before Covid I also started taking surfing lessons.
I write and advocate for causes I care about and have had some successes. The circus no longer comes to my town, there's a beautiful preserved forest that does NOT have a cell phone tower, there's a large city park where ALL smoking is banned.....
My favorite issues are environmental, animal rights, and those concerning poverty and human rights. I think in another life I must have been a peasant in a peasant uprising.
This might seem odd but for fun I collect trash. My kayak often looks more like a garbage scow as I gather plastics and other trash while kayaking on the river and at the beach. I mostly just find trash but I've found some interesting stuff too, including something the bomb squad had to blow up on the spot. I'm still waiting to find either a briefcase full of half a million dollars of drug money no one claims or a chest of pirate's treasure sticking half out of a sandbar.
I love gardening... for wildlife, for food, for beauty, organically, and with native plants.
I enjoy a variety of things and am always eager to learn new ones. I'm open to suggestions.....

I became widowed and retired at about the same time. I really did not have a plan or thought about this circumstance I find myself in. I have avoided eating animals for going on 15 years now. When I considered meeting new people, I found that I am not interested in building new friendships or bonding with people that do not share my thoughts and beliefs about plant-based eating. I am nearly 70, so why waste the effort. I have old friends who just think I'm weird, and have known me long enough to be accepting of my quirks, being vegan is just another one. When I thought about dating again, I decided they must be plant-based, vegan or vegetarian. My sweet wife was all of those at different times. I pretend we're ten years in the future, and I try to live and eat like that was true. I am a long term vegetarian, and I have been very healthy and lucky my whole life. I have a Master's degree from the U of A, but I feel like I am really self-educated, and I am well read on many subjects. I love modern everything - architecture, cars, clothes, furniture, Macintosh computers. When I was a teenager, my heros were not sports stars or GI Joe, but the astronauts, JFK, and the Beatles.
Never married, I have no children or pets. I have no "baggage". But I do love women, children, and (other people's) animals. I would like to meet a like-minded girlfriend, who can share some my passions. When it comes to travel, I like Asia, but next I would like to see Europe and Scandinavia.
I never watch sports on TV, and I go to live sporting events only rarely, just to enjoy the spectacle. After the game, I might not know who won. If I never golf, that would be too soon. I would much rather go to a concert, museum, event, or just a walk in the desert.
I live in a high-rise in downtown Tempe. I drive an electric Chevy Volt. I can WALK to restaurants, theaters, bookstores, banks, and take the light rail to the airport.
I don't like: motorcycles, weird piercings, tattoos, religion, guns.

Jewish ideals inform and guide in all aspects of life. These include honesty; respect for the sanctity of all life, which includes being veg*n; not hurting people's feelings or saying negative things about them; shunning gratuitous hatred of those who think differently; giving others the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to do the right thing; concern for the vulnerable and the disabled; having a higher purpose in life, including work; and learning for the sake of learning, including from everyone! Enjoy hiking, being in nature, lizard-watching, learning, artistic creativity, and dry and waggish humor (but not sarcasm). Introverted and sometimes lost in thought, but hopefully thoughtful in more ways than one! Look for ways to help others while avoiding self-serving feelings like validation and pride. Adventurous but also risk-averse.

While here in the UK, when ever i can get away for the weekend, Oxfordshire my old stomping ground, canal walks a must i do this when i can, train makes this trip easy to get to. Not driving at the moment! I would be doing longer distant trips places that are on my bucket list, Yorkshire Dales, Highlands - Scotland....mabe just all of it!!
