Life is so much richer sharing experiences with that special someone than being alone. I like to go cycling , traveling, work out, want to get back into some kind of hobby, the usual that most people like to do. I am turned off by people who don't care about what is going on in the world or who can't carry on an in depth conversation about political, ecological, or moral issues. At the same time it's nice to take a break from all the negativity in the world and the news. I am a mix of seriousness and light heartedness. I am a dreamer and tend to be idealistic but I don't get that confused with reality. I love to kid around, tease (harmlessly, of course). I work for a large nonprofit dedicated to animal welfare. My job is fairly intense, and when I'm not working, I like to enjoy my time in the outdoors (hiking, cycling, watching birds, etc.) or watching films, listening to music, playing standards on my electric piano, or reading.
I love to travel, too, (at least I did before the pandemic) and have been to Europe (many times), Costa Rica, Thailand, Japan, and Hawaii. I am not at all religious, but I have a longstanding interest in Buddhism as both philosophy and practice.

I spend a lot of time outdoors. I kayak, hike, bike, birdwatch, and love meeting all my wild neighbors. The year before Covid I also started taking surfing lessons.
I write and advocate for causes I care about and have had some successes. The circus no longer comes to my town, there's a beautiful preserved forest that does NOT have a cell phone tower, there's a large city park where ALL smoking is banned.....
My favorite issues are environmental, animal rights, and those concerning poverty and human rights. I think in another life I must have been a peasant in a peasant uprising.
This might seem odd but for fun I collect trash. My kayak often looks more like a garbage scow as I gather plastics and other trash while kayaking on the river and at the beach. I mostly just find trash but I've found some interesting stuff too, including something the bomb squad had to blow up on the spot. I'm still waiting to find either a briefcase full of half a million dollars of drug money no one claims or a chest of pirate's treasure sticking half out of a sandbar.
I love gardening... for wildlife, for food, for beauty, organically, and with native plants.
