I love music, love female singers... Surely Aretha Franklin is the Mother of Jesus. Have seen 40 major concerts, Went to Joy of Movement dance school, Boston, for ballet, jazz, ballroom, disco, and modern. Now I dance to funk, hard rock, jazz, and edm (electronic dance music.) I live 15 minutes from Hollywood blvd. and dance to music that is loud. LOUD!! I'm actually a performing dancer...unless you want to dance real close and slow. I enjoy NPR, Pacifica, PBS, the BBC, and TBN. The rest of TV is increasingly queer, and violent, and so are the movies. I hate guns in our entertainment media.
I can do horoscope interpretations, massage, gardening, see auras, have esp, intuition, and have written four books. (So what?) I write totally by inspiration, not employment. Living a principled life of meaning, purpose, simplicity, and growth is my goal. Originally from New Jersey, I went to college (Pomona) and beyond in southern California but have spent most of my adult life in southern Arizona. I find the Sonoran Desert to be magical, and I hike a lot, but you can see beauty in most places if your mind is open to it. The beauty of any place, though, derives mainly from the people who populate it. Character traits I value include "compassion and altruism, placidness, patience, and slowness to anger, and abundant loving-kindness and truthfulness" (Exodus 34:6), as well as reverence for all life. The latter includes wearing a mask, to protect both others and myself, during the pandemic! Practical examples of these traits include: being mindful of the needs of the disabled and the vulnerable; avoiding ableist language; uplifting others; and giving people the benefit of the doubt. I look for ways to help others, but, whatever I do, I try to avoid self-serving feelings like self-validation and pride.
With my scientific background, I'm mostly a left-brained person, but I try to exercise the right half as well, although I fall a little short of being a polymath. I appreciate the contribution of art to life and especially the creativity behind it, although I like to view it not just for its aesthetic beauty but also as an extension of the person behind it. Jewish ethical values (which are mostly universal in nature) and teachings inform and guide me in all aspects of living -- including diet! I've been vegan for 35 years. I don't engage in social media, which I feel is harmful to society and unbecoming, and try hard not to let technology control my life. I've striven to bring Jewish medicine and the values it represents to the world via the eponymous website. In essence, it's a philosophy that regards medicine as a sacred vocation whose practitioners view their work as a calling, shunning any motivation that smacks of "what's in it for me?" The goal is to make the world safe not for democracy but for medical ethical meritocracy and, thereby, for patients. In that capacity, I also fill the urgent need for a source of evenhanded, authoritative information on vegetarian nutrition.

I think I have been very successful up to now in avoiding such ways by enjoying doing different types of work which i get paid and different types of work I don't get paid for-I don't have chores as i enjoy cleaning and getting food and other life activities, I enjoy a lot of things I do, seeing them as valuable in themselves as experiences. I have loved working with kids and wish to do this a lot more.
I love mending, making and repurposing things and practices of living simply. I have done some talks and a few articles on this subject. In many ways I live simply, this primarily being so others can simply live; and I earn less, buy less,trash less and because of this I think I have a beautiful life in many ways.

Of lately, I have begun to go with my intuitive feelings over logic/intelligence, which is ironical because I highly value intelligence. In theory, I practice presence / mindfulness and try to avoid speaking through ego. In reality, I'm outwardly a normal human being, totally not perfect, and I have my unconscious moments, too.
It would be great to find someone who shares a similar desire to be more conscious and is willing to both give and take helpful reminders when we start to slip up. Finding someone truly interested in this has been rather difficult for me. It is something I have had a hard time finding through traditional dating sites, so hoping to have better luck here.

During the pandemic, I ran at least 10k every single day to avoid lockdown boredom in the steep Santa Cruz Mountains. Although I've reduced that due to repetitive injury, I care a lot about my health and hope you care about your health, too! I prefer to use natural healing for physical/mental health -- holistic medicine, diet, exercise, supplements, and meditation/present-mindedness to ease stress. Quick rundown: I should probably start by saying that I don’t actually live in Fargo, but am not too far from there. ~Pacific Northwest childhood, infatuated with arts, crafts, building, & nature
~adolescence conquering the wilds of Canada, living self-sufficiently off the land (as a vegan!)
~a decade in Mexico where I taught languages & music and started medical studies (Western AND alternative) but married/had kids instead of finishing
~a decade slaving for (but enamored with) the software industry in WA & Europe, coasting through the 90s dot-com bonanza
~and now I'm a decade into life as a dumped lover & single-parent temporarily retrenching/retiring/retreating to sedentary small-town life & nature to finish raising my college-bound kids & restore a 100 year old Victorian
