Why I'm Vegetarian
There are too many reasons to answer at 2 am :) But long story short: - 1. Environmental: I want to have the absolute smallest carbon foot print I can manage while passing through this earth and beyond (by 'beyond" I do not mean in an afterlife, but on Earth once I am gone, which most people do ot realize they will have, for centuries to come) - 2. To me, animals are individuals whose lives belong exclusively to themselves, and for their own purpose, have their own goals, orientations and needs. They seek nourishment and peace and interesting activities and partners and homes and to have offspring, like us. (well, to have offspring is relative, not having offspring is more of an option for us, and, unfortunately, they are often forced to have them, or barred from having them the way they want, with whom they want, and when they want or are supposed to naturally do, due to human interference) . Therefore, I believe animals are entitled to legal personhood. - 3. I'd like to be vegan (I was one year a while ago) again, and I am working hard to straighten my health and learn what I need in order to do it correctly. 4. You simply have to be far more educated to be a healthy vegetarian and vegan than to be "omnivore" in the current world. And definitely more compassionate. I have a hard problem swallowing up any philosophical or "spiritual" discourses (let aside religious) coming from people who is addicted to the flesh of other creatures when they have the option not to. Compassion and a heathy environment over killing and causing suffering any day!
More About Me
I have lived long swats of my life in 4 different continents. I travel slow and low, that is, I try to avoid taking flights every time that is possible. therefore, sometimes it has taken me two days to reach destinations that other people reach in one hour flying out the same city... and I have paid 4 times more... It used to be an adventure... but it is tiring. we need far better means of public transportation EVERYWHERE in the world. TRAINS THAT ARE PUNCTUAL AND NOT CROWDED with 3 carts reserved to a "first class" with very few passengers. But remember that trains and ships also hurt wildlife and pollute. I do not eat ANYTHING that has palm oil if I can avoid it. It is not better than eating the flesh of the thousands of animals that get slaughtered and burnt to replace native trees with deadly palm trees grown specifically to produce palm oil. You are directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of orang-utans. I've seen the spires of dense black smoke coming up for miles and smelled the burned wood and vegetation with every gulp of air I took in Malaysia and Singapore, across the border with Banda Ahce, where the massacres were taking place. It pushed me into a deep depression that it took me 6 years to begin to overcome. I will never fully overcome this, or the dozen of other ecological disasters and injuries I've witnessed on animals... A person who goes through their lives denying bearing witness to any environmental injustice, to any crimes against other living beings, is blind, deft, and insensitive and a person I can not expect to really have as a friend.
I'm Looking For
I am. not too certain at this point. I'd be most grateful for a wonderful friendship with any other human being who feels a bit like pariah among meat eaters and who is shy or happens to live (like me) in a country whose language you are having a hard time learning, whichever the reasons. (I speak 3 and a few bits of others, but I have not tried to actively to learn the one around me at the moment. I will soon try to change that, too) I am looking to make connections with like-minded people who care about animals, but also about ecosystems and the environment at large, and who d their best to take active measures to reduce their carbon footprint and concomitant suffering in other spheres as well: examples: people who try not to flight as much, or have pledge not to ever own a car (even choosing their place of residence to avoid buying one of those diabolical machines... and yes, I have a driver's license and I have rented the random car in my life... but I think it is only justify in very, very few instances) I would have liked to have a child (ONE), but it did not happen and it won't happen now. A note for the webmasters: it feels a bit too pushy and intrusive to be forced to answer the questions about children as they stand now. It is hurtful to those who did want them, yet could not have them, and do not feel like providing an answer.
