Why I'm Vegan
I've been vegetarian since college, switched to being vegan after hearing John Robbins speak at UC Berkeley in the early 90's. I'm vegan for all three reasons: health, the animals and the planet. Originally, health was my main reason. But now I think it’s obvious that animals are sentient beings and that it’s immoral how they are treated when raised for food. Plus, the environmental cost of raising animals for food is huge. It's basically destroying the planet. I think that being aware of the consequences of our actions is important. For example, turning on a light means that somewhere, more electricity must be generated and also pollution. So we shouldn’t waste electricity. Likewise, eating animal products means that somewhere, more animals had to suffer.
More About Me
I'm very non-materialistic. I enjoy running, biking, studying and learning things. I use my bicycle for most of my transportation, including my frequent excursions to the Berkeley Bowl. I'm politically liberal. I grew up in Wisconsin but went to graduate school in Massachusetts, San Diego and in Los Angeles. I work as a computer programmer for UC Berkeley. Sometimes I also teach college programming classes. I'm very independent and find it easy to spend lots of time alone. But also enjoy doing things with people.
I'm Looking For
Someone health conscious, intelligent, independent, and kind who likes learning things. Ideally someone who enjoys working out (biking, running, or something else) and would enjoy going on shared bike rides, hikes or runs. A partner for mutual support and honest feedback, and in helping to make the world a better place in what ever way we can.
