Why I'm Vegan
I have been vegan for over 24 years, mostly for ethical reasons and also for the environment, though I appreciate the health benefits too, and have become increasingly health conscious over the years and have a very healthy diet. I was ovo-lacto-vegetarian for almost 4 years before that, also for ethical reasons. It was a natural progression to become vegan as I became more informed. I took the decision seriously, knowing that I was making a life-long decision. I expected it was going to a difficult decision, because I thought it was going to be a big sacrifice, but it turned out to be a very easy decision, once I had read about how animals were treated, etc. Ever since I have been absolutely committed to veganism and never had any doubts. I have been involved in several vegetarian/vegan organizations, including having served in leadership roles. Although I learned to cook mostly just by cooking for myself, I have good culinary skills. I like cooking for others, and my cooking is well enjoyed even by most non-vegetarians who dare to try it! I am well known among my friends and relatives for crepes with berry compote fillings and sweet creamy topping, banana bread, Thai coconut soup, spring rolls (raw, not-fried) with spicy peanut sauce, and my award-winning chili. I also make fantastic oatmeal, and if that does not sound that interesting, you have not had my oatmeal! Of course those are just a few of the things that I make. Although I have many cookbooks, most of the time I do not use any recipes, and when I do, I usually end up deviating from those anyway. Sometimes I do not have all the ingredients, but even when I do, I still regularly make changes! I prefer improvising in the kitchen like I do in playing jazz.
More About Me
I am by default very happy, energetic, and fairly optimistic, with a good sense of humor. I laugh a lot and enjoy getting together and doing things with my friends and have fun. I value my friendships highly and I go out of my way to help my friends and try to always think of others before myself. Both of my degrees are in Mechanical Engineering and my minor is in Economics. I run my own business as a software developer and consultant. Although I am highly intellectual and analytical, I also am creative, artistic, musical, athletic and fit. I have so many interests, I am never bored! I am enthusiastic about a multitude of activities, especially outdoors, as my appreciation of nature is deep. I try to make the most of life and the wonderful natural resources of this area, such as the Adirondacks. I love skiing (downhill, XC, and water), sailing, sailboarding, running (especially on trails), cycling, hiking, and backpacking/camping. I am a competitive runner (usually winning an age-group award in local races) and have run 5 marathons so far (and am qualified to run Boston again next year). Winds that scare most other sailors off the lake, I eagerly await. Hydroplaning my fast 2-person sailboat is a real thrill! I have sailed competitively (including on the MIT Sailing Team). I also have enjoyed table tennis for decades. I enjoy doing these things with friends, no matter their level of skill, and am happy to teach my skills. I am very ambitious and it is my goal to start my own renewable energy company. I am determined to use my technical abilities to substantially mitigate global warming, but I also teach people that they can help the environment themselves by not eating animal products. I am a compassionate, genuine and sincere person, and will be a dedicated, loyal, and caring partner.
I'm Looking For
I am looking for a compassionate woman who shares my ideals and enthusiasm, is intelligent, kind, considerate, open (but not harsh), active and adventurous, to be my life partner, equal in every respect, to connect with on every level and be true best friends. Honesty is essential and she should not afraid to tell me what she really thinks. Having shared interests is important; I want to spend time together and share many of the experiences I enjoy so much. Also, while I have many terrific vegan and vegetarian friends, I would delighted to have even more, especially more who share some of my other interests! Particularly, during the summer, I am always looking for people who want to sail my scow with me (when there is a good breeze)! No sailing experience required; I can teach you everything you need to know!
