Why I'm Vegan
I believe a plant-based diet to be an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Actually, I was born to vegetarian parents. I never experienced any other way of eating. I do not support the abuse of animals, but I knew little of that, until later. The first 20 yrs of my life my diet included eggs and milk. (After Mom's milk, it was goat's milk from Granny's goats.) Later, I discovered that I felt better without dairy. I'm not fanatically vegan, but that choice fits most closely, as I rarely consume any dairy, and that rarely by choice. My preference is fresh/raw from a healthy garden. Interesting observation: As a medical student, in surgery, I noticed the carnivores having a little trouble--especially at lunchtime--with sizzling human flesh (cauterization). Not appetizing for a vegetarian.... I have never used recreational drugs. I very rarely even use an aspirin. No need.

More About Me
I live on the island of Molokai in Hawaii. I've been the owner of the local natural food store, since '87. I have cabins for workers/guests. For serious exercise, I enjoy riding my bike 19 miles to work. When I hike, it is usually exploring off the beaten path. I prefer simple country living, fresh air, and quietness. On the side, I design/sell/promote alternative energy systems. I have many other practical skills, not listed. I like exploring nature, lands, cultures, thoughts, belief systems. I value organic gardens, but too busy to do one right now. In a past life, I built houses for a living, and was a fireman. I pursue and promote rational natural medicine. In the 70's I spent several years in Guatemala studying natural medicine and helping establish a remote medical clinic. Confronted with medical emergencies at the clinic, I always wished I was better qualified. I had studied pre-med in college (biochem/religion), but circumstances kept me from attending med school until later in life. When opportunity came, I studied medicine for 2 yrs in the Caribbean, St. Kitts. Unfortunately, I had to time-out to care for my business in Hawaii, as my management team had to retire. With added medical experience I am now better qualified to counsel my customers. I also find myself serving as advocate for those who prefer alternative medical treatment. I've been twice asked to care for elderly friends whose final wish was to breathe their last in the comfort of their own home. My religious background is conservative Christian (5th generation SDA). However, my personal studies have led me to a little different place. I am no longer a member of any denomination. I have learned to love people of all faiths (or none) as my fellow earthlings. I earnestly pursue what is real and good, reasonable and healthy, mentally and otherwise. I encourage others to test/examine everything and hang onto what is good and true, healthy and beneficial. We need not fear honestly examining our roots, beliefs, etc. Life is really wonderful when we clear out all the errors and other bad stuff that we possibly can. I have a grown daughter (26) who will marry on 10-10-2010. I have been divorced, amicably, since '04. Financially, I'm recovering from school/business debt. Recession has been challenging. Not much extra play money right now, but expect to be more flexible in a few months when a few more bills get paid off.

I'm Looking For
A life partner who shares my values and interests. Someone who can love and appreciate me for what I am, share my dreams, be patient with my unconventional ideas. One willing to share life's burdens as well as its joys and rewards. I love helping people, but I like doing it best with an unselfish, compassionate partner by my side. I'm looking for someone intellectually similar who can get excited with me about learning new things. My match will have educated herself (formally and/or informally). Although I love togetherness, I'm not intimidated by a woman with a mind of her own--actually it's a turn-on for me--but she needs to be open and reasonable. I desire someone who enjoys affection and lots of hugs and squeezes and holding hands, you know, sweetness. But not so much to smother. We both need personal space and time...freedom to be ourselves...yet devoted to each other. I like a humble, clean, peaceful, orderly home. I need a little help with the orderly part as sometimes I'm like a mad scientist, not taking time to keep organized. I would like a hospitable lady who is a kind hostess for visitors, yet respects our family privacy. I am healthy enough to consider children--yours or sprout our own--in the right situation. But as I've already done that, I consider it only as an option, not a necessity. I don't have an anger problem and I don't yell. This is a deal-breaker for me in a partner. I deal with differences constructively. I like animals, but don't have pets, because I don't like them to be a burden for others when I want to go somewhere. Finally, I have a favorite expression: "There are a lot worse things than being single...."
