Why I'm Vegan
In 1980 I eliminated most meat and dairy from my diet for health reasons. No longer cooked with meat, and consumed cow yogurt solely for medicinal purposes. To preserve family and social relationships, I occasionally consumed some meat on holidays and when dining out. Throughout the 1980s, as I became more informed about environmental and cruelty aspects of meat production, I became increasingly reluctant to consume any meat. My transition to dietary veganism occurred in 1991 when I attended two national vegan conferences (NAVS Summerfest and American Vegan Society).
More About Me
Energetic, unpretentious, curious, analytical, compassionate (life-threatening bacteria and viruses excepted), advocate for wildlife, animal rights, and the environment. Founder and director of an environmental-educational nonprofit since 1998 that has encompassed a variety of activities: public speaking, writing, photography, videography. Also authored a book related to this work. Seeking the woman who shares my passion for improving the planet and society. Interested in joining forces to operate either a “green” business or a cause-inspired nonprofit (not necessarily my current one). Open to whatever works for us both. Initially characterized myself in this profile as “spiritual.” But that term has come to be more laden with New Age denotations and connotations than I’m comfortable with. Perhaps a better characterization of my philosophical outlook is that of “experiential.” Through experiences I not only gain knowledge about the world, but also about my reactions to these experiences. As examples, I’ll note that in recent years I’ve walked the Camino Frances and the 2nd half of the Via Francigena, neither for reasons of traditional Christianity nor for reasons often offered by serial walkers, but rather to place myself into novel, unfamiliar situations that have the tendency to break up established patterns of thought and behavior, and that may give rise to what I’ll call transcendental insights.
I'm Looking For
A woman who enjoys outdoor activities, is energetic, appreciative of the arts, and possesses a sense of humor. And who believes that we can build a better life for us, while working toward a less cruel and more habitable planet for all its creatures.
