| Why I'm Vegetarian |
| I am a vegetarian because I don't believe we have a right to eat animals. I don't know how anyone can justify eating a living creature when it's not necessary. I find it repugnant that cookery programmes think it's acceptable to put baby chickens on people's plates, or that restaurants have 'suckling pig' on the menu (eating a baby!)I don't understand how people can detach themselves from the cruelties involved in procuring such 'meat.' |

| I work in the social care field and have done so for many years, having worked with people with all kinds of support needs. I am interested in humans' responses to events in their lives and how that shapes their futures. In my work I see the effects of inequality and injustice, and have no time for views which lack compassion and social understanding. For down time, I enjoy going for walks in the park and looking at the wildlife. In between work I'm also trying to find the time to become more involved in my local veggie group and campaigns re animal welfare. I love cats and do voluntary work with a cat welfare group, having been a cat fosterer. As a contrast to the above more serious concerns, I have also been doing voluntary work at a historic house. I enjoy indulging in coffee and cake in cafes, either alone or with friends, and appreciate the ambience of a good pub. I love the buzz of the city, but also the tranquility of a garden or a walk in the sunshine. I further enjoy the simple things in life like reading novels, surfing the net and sending emails, and stroking my 2 cats. I would like to indulge more in cultural pursuits like visiting museums, stately homes, cinema, theatre, art galleries, etc, and to find someone special to go with. |
