| Many yoga practitioners work on perfecting their asanas without reference to ahimsa. I feel that nonviolence towards the animal members of our Earth family is essential for creating the peace of mind needed for calming the violence that is consuming our planet. Not only is the environment deteriorated and depleted by the process of "animal agriculture" but if we make war on the animals we will make war on each other. I choose to recognize the life force within our animal kin is as valid as the life force within me. All life has the same Source. My choice to not over ride the free will of animals resonates with our founding fathers who first met the troubled white race: " What is man without the animal? If all the animals were gone men would die from great loneliness of spirit, for whatever happens to the beasts also happens to man. All things are connected. Whatever befalls the Earth befalls the children of the earth." Chief Seattle Even the best environmental groups fall short of standing up to animal agriculture. At least our closest friends, lovers, partners and children should know the truth that the lives of animals are as important as ours and no one has the right to dominate the free will of others. |

| I have spent a good portion of my life traveling and living in Europe and India. The cultural and spiritual influences of these places has imprinted me with a vision of the amazing potential humankind has to make the Earth the amazing home it is meant to be for all races of humankind and its extended family. The enlightened personalities I have met along the way have taught me to endeavor for the greatest good for the greatest number, and to relegate greed to a primitive, uncivilized status. I choose spirituality over religion, the right of everyone to have easy access to pure food, water and air, and I cast my vote for women to have an equal seat at the table of human societal evolution. I endeavor to not separate the Creator from the creation in my occupation or relaxation. |
