| Why I'm Vegan |
| I've been creeped out by dairy -- the idea of drinking a cow's breast milk -- since I was a pre-teen. I remember in my 20's having a moment where I looked over at a girlfriend's family eating ribs and they looked barbaric to me. I co-founded a micro finance institution in India, and so much of micro finance is about loans for buying cows, and I hit a point that I couldn't do it anymore and had to let go. I am Vegan because I cannot not be Vegan anymore. I look at Veganism as an intelligence test. When a person steps back and thinks from first principles about food, then the obvious conclusion is that eating animals makes no sense. I'm not very confrontational with people about it day-to-day. My philosophy is to just be a Vegan in the world and embrace the conversations that other people want to have about what I am eating as a chance to open their eyes gently with humor. I have converted many non-Vegans by supporting their journey at their own pace. I've been an political activist, but the longer I live, the more I believe in the power of individual and local action. It is hard for me to escape that if the world all went Vegan, then our current so-called problems would disappear and we would live in abundance. I see Veganism has the one thing any person can do with government's permission to be an agent of change in the world. I love animals too -- especially cats. |

| More About Me |
| I was born and raised in Florida and went to college there. I left Florida the day I graduated college and went to work as a political campaign operative and consultant all over the US. I did an MBA, and then I went to India and started a micro finance company. I moved back to the US 2 years ago, and now I work in leadership and organizational development. I have a business with my best friend from business school. I'm divorced and have a 10 year old son. M ex- and I split custody 50-50 and we are on good terms -- no drama. I'm an only child, and I have a great relationship with my mom and dad. I've run a bunch of marathons, but I've been slacking on my running this year. I love getting out into nature and hiking around. I'm a very appreciative person. I pride myself in finding trees in acorns. I used to work in politics, and although I don't do that work anymore, I do love to talk about it. |
