| Primarily because animals deserve the freedom to live their own lives, just like we do. But I also care about my health and the environment. |

| As a child, walks in the park with my father lead me understand that animals aren't our playthings. From that, I decided that it was wrong to test on them, but somehow it didn't occur to me to also question eating them. But now I've been (mostly) vegan now for two decades. (I say "mostly" because I still will sometimes have cheese, such as when I'm at a restaurant without dairy-free alternatives.) I'm fortunate that my career enables me to promote my values while using my sense of curiosity, my impulse for creativity, and my desire to socialize. Because of all that, I tend to be a pretty upbeat and positive person. I like to explore and learn about new things (especially when they are a bit quirky), so I enjoy museums and architecture tours. But I also enjoy browsing book stores, thrift shops, flea markets -- and casual walks in forest preserves. (Bonus points if if a deer shows up!) For a more low-key form of downtime, I like conversations or snuggling on a couch to watch a movie or TV show. (Some favorite shows: The West Wing, The Newsroom, Downton Abbey, Great British Bake Off.) Quick clarification on two of my "Personal Information" answers: - For "Have Children" I put "Yes (but not living with me)"; I raised them, but they are both adults now (25 and 20). - For "Religion" I put "Atheist"; arguably I'm more of an atheistic Buddhist. |

| Kindness and empathy top my "good person" checklist. I also have a strong attraction to curiosity, playfulness, wit, and banter. Of course honesty, passion, and a desire to work through challenges/problems are essential to a successful long-term romantic relationship, but seems to me an *amazing* relationship also includes the desire to grow as a person, being open with intimacy and affection, and a rich capacity for joy and laughter. . . . And to be cliché for a moment: must love dogs. I'm looking to rescue again, probably a pittie. |
