| Why I'm Vegetarian |
| Since I was a child the idea that we killed and ate animals upset me. As I grew older and learned the terrible cruelty these animals endure, I began a very gradual journey, starting with eliminating veal and lamb in college. Sometimes I would close my mind - my conscience - and give in to the world around me, but always I returned - first no beef, no pork, then no chicken, through several cycles. Remained pescatarian for several years, but am a joyous vegetarian now and no going back. I have further to go in terms of learning to prepare healthier meals - and it is possible I may continue the journey and end up vegan. But one step at a time. |

| A retired immigration paralegal, I try to live with compassion and to be aware of the world around us - though it's hard to be hopeful sometimes. I love languages, try to keep up my French and Spanish, though too self conscious to speak. I work at home part-time editing legal transcripts, which is more fun than it sounds. |
