Why I'm Vegan
When I was 13, my family moved to New Hampshire for a homesteading adventure on 50 acres of wilderness. We raised pigs, chickens, and sheep, and while it initially seemed like a fun way of life, everything changed for me when it came time to slaughter the animals. I couldn't seem to reconcile the care we gave them with the act of taking their lives. Those early experiences in New Hampshire planted the seeds for my journey towards vegetarianism, which eventually led me to become completely plant-based around the year 2000. I remain committed to this path for four main reasons: A Natural Aversion: Over time, I’ve come to view eating animal products as both gross and unnecessary. The idea of consuming flesh or animal by-products doesn’t sit right with me, especially when there are so many nutritious and delicious plant-based alternatives available. Moral Ethics: I believe it is morally unethical to consume animal products, especially when considering the horrific conditions in which animals are raised and slaughtered on factory farms. I can’t support an industry built on suffering and exploitation. Health Benefits: For me, a plant-based diet feels inherently healthier. I’ve found that whole, plant-based foods give me more energy, clarity, and overall well-being. It’s a way of living that aligns with my values and supports long-term health. I like to think of it as eating as close to the sun as possible. The further we go down the food chain away from plants, the more likely we are to cause comparatively more suffering and end more deeply sentient lives prematurely. Environmental Responsibility: A think a plant-based diet is one of the most effective ways to reduce our environmental impact. The resources required to raise animals for food are huge, and the environmental toll is equally massive. If more people increased the amount of plant-based options in their daily diet, the more we might have a fighting chance to avoid the worst effects of climate change.
More About Me
I split my time between sunny Portugal and the Bay Area in California, enjoying the best of both worlds. Ultimately, though, I'm open to living wherever feels right with the right partner. As a graphic designer running my own boutique company, I find joy in creativity and the freedom it brings. Laughter is essential to me—I believe in finding humor in the everyday and not taking life too seriously. My passions include armchair political science, delving into the physical sciences, and exploring lots of metaphysical concepts. I also love staying active with Padel, snowboarding, hiking, and traveling (getting back into yoga). Whether dining out or volunteering, I love experiences that bring meaning and connection. I often feel more in tune with the Canadian spirit than the American one, and I strive to give more than I take. "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make." The Beatles If you share a love for adventure, thoughtful conversation, and a bit of humor along the way, I'd love to connect.
I'm Looking For
I'm looking for a soul mate who shares a few ideals and ways of being—someone who is driven by a deep sense of altruism and approaches life with an open heart and mind. I'm drawn to those who can balance intellectual curiosity with a playful, goofy side, finding joy in both meaningful conversations and lighthearted moments. I'm passionate about exploring the wonders of the universe, whether it's through biology, cosmology, or the mysteries of quantum physics. While I don't need to dive into these topics all the time, I do enjoy going down the occasional rabbit hole and would love to connect with someone who shares (or at least tolerates!) an interest in science fiction and the bigger questions of existence. If you're someone who values fearless compassion, appreciates the beauty of the unknown, and isn't afraid to be a little silly along the way, I'd love to get to know you.
