This is something few people outside the sphere of medicine can understand, because they lack knowledge of both the science and the culture of medicine today. Besides, most people have a psychological need to believe that things are being done in their best interests. Scientific medicine, by the way, can include any modalities so long as there is at least some good evidence for their effectiveness. Specific therapies don't have to be proven and we don't even have to understand how they work. Thus, there is no such thing as "Western medicine" or "conventional medicine." But what's urgently needed is a system in which people view their work as a calling and shed themselves of any self-interest. I've written extensively on the subject. Headshot is from July, 2023.

I just don't see myself loving someone who doesn't care about killing / eating animals. For many of us, being a veggie is so much more than simply a diet. I'm a former airline pilot changing careers (not by choice). My highly profitable airline was bought out, suddenly unexpectedly closed, the airline pilot retirement age was raised from 60 to 65 (no attrition for five years), and the economy was horrible. I sure miss flying the Boeing 727...the feeling of 48,000 pounds of thrust at my fingertips is difficult to duplicate! The beauty of the Earth from above is so breathtaking. A scratch in my eye from a brand new contact lens has cost me the career I so enjoyed. I went back to school and obtained my LPN, but have not used it yet due to a number of family tragedies. I had been taking care of my vegan Mom full time. Congestive heart failure is no fun. She fought a valiant battle, but is no longer with me. Now I am working on getting my house ready for sale to move into my parents (a few acres and a swimming pool). I love music - tastes range from classical to oldies (Sinatra) to alternative, but I especially enjoy acoustic Latin / Mediterranean guitar. Hammocks - such a simple invention, but so relaxing! Canoeing, boating, bicycling, experiencing nature, tennis, or even throwing a Frisbee are all fun fair weather activities. Based on my profile, you probably wouldn't guess I love to laugh, and joke around often. Sometimes my delivery is too dry for people to realize I'm joking...love watching the five second delay as someone gets it! I'm also here because vegan women outnumber vegan men by about 4:1 (nice job, Ladies), so I want to try to help give those incredible women more romantic options to choose from. Evidence-based vegan, progressively political, into lifestyle medicine, and frugal would be a perfect match. (My idea of splurging is when I buy sweet potatoes instead of potatoes. However, I would definitely be comfortable splurging a little more for the right person :). Otherwise, I'm happily single, but I'm always open to having more friends, especially more vegan or vegan-curious friends <3 #### Hobbies include daily exercise (with full body resistance training every other day), consuming content from NPR (especially via KQED Radio) and the PBS Newshour, and pursuing opportunities to help better myself or support the world around me :). Other than that, though, I'm very open to new experiences or activities, too. Native English speaker and somewhat proficient in Spanish. I'm always up for learning more languages, especially if it helps me communicate with you or your loved ones better. I was formerly pre-health (medical/dental) and then switched to project management because it has allowed me to continue working with and spending time with my family. Twenty years from now, when those family opportunities are less prevalent, I'll probably look to go back to school (ideally to study something to help reduce animal and/or environmental exploitation, although hopefully humans are no longer doing that 20 years from now :p) or look into more lucrative professional options (and donate any earnings beyond what I would hope to remain a fairly frugal lifestyle to high-impact charities promoting animal welfare.) Those plans are definitely flexible, however, especially if that flexibility would help me to better support the happiness of a wonderful vegan partner :)

Being a vegan has not been easy for me, and that's a dramatic understatement. My family was not accepting or understanding when I decided to adopt a vegan diet, and it's had lasting effects. When I first began eliminating foods from my diet, my parents didn't know what to make of it. They thought I was crazy, and reacted with fear and hostility. They took me to psychiatrists who tried to discourage me from going vegan; I was banned from eating at the dinner table with my parents (I could only eat after my father was in bed); and other family members refused to speak/associate with me, afraid that my vegan "insanity" was contagious and they might catch it. Perhaps worst of all, my parents, especially my mother, began controlling all aspects of my life. My mother has always been a "smother-mother," or "helicopter-mom" but after I finished high school and became a vegan, it became exponentially worse. She now controls about everything in my life, and it's absolutely suffocating. I'm not allowed to do anything or go anywhere without her permission. But she thinks it's for my own good; that she's protecting me. She thinks, if left on my own, I'd never make it. That the world would eat me alive. Which is why I'm reaching out here: to try to connect with other vegans, hopefully find a soulmate, and escape from the unhealthy and soul-crushing authority of my parents. And of course, I'm not perfect (that doesn't mean I stray from my veganism, which is incredibly important to me). I have flaws, and I want to be honest about them. I think it's only fair to any potential partner. I have depression (largely from the way people have treated me over the years, but it also runs in my family), as well as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, which is an anxiety disorder (if you've ever watched the show "Monk," you might be familiar with it). But that doesn't mean I'm not still a good person. I'm an introvert, sensitive, quiet, patient, and a good listener. I'm very low-key, and a home-body (yet in my current situation, I'm very lonely). I also used to paint/draw, but my parents took away my art supplies, and now I just don't have the time anymore. I’ve volunteer at an animal rescue sanctuary, and love the place. All of the beautiful things in life are so much better when shared with someone special,..... music, art, a poem, reading a good book or story aloud, food/cooking,hiking around. Ya know what I mean? Dating someone nice can be fun but finding someone special, now that's the challenge. I'm looking to cherish, lift up, to be both passionate and compassionate, to laugh with and learn from one another. Hiking Hollywood Hills, supervising volunteers with Tree People near Mullholland above the Valley. Lately as a vegetarian not just involved in environmental but animal concerns I've been a regular volunteer at Gentle Barn. A farm animal rescue place that is so beautiful in so many ways. I like small unique restaurants over cookie cutter ones, am aware of others feelings, I've been told I'm attentive and romantic, like to play piano and sing as well as percussion instruments, work with and ride horses occasionally, , currently in college for Business and Art History, Coordinate volunteers for charities, am from an awesome loving family and know how fortunate I am to be, a 5th generation L. A. native, a lover of animals both domestic and otherwise and a bit uncomfortable writing about or selling myself too much but when in Rome..... Like most people I like "nice things" but truly appreciate the important things. I'm in a career field helping those in need. Not always what I want to do but it is what God wants me to do. I like to drive up the coast and stop in fun or interesting places along the way. Would much rather talk on the phone and meet after a few e-mails where one can hear those important inflections. New for 2024 ... I now have a plan !!! Much has changed in my life in the past 5 years, and now I am looking forward to the age of retirement, in a country that has taken my money over the years and spent it elsewhere. So the coming “retirement” will be more of a reinvention as I move from the “Big City” to a more self sufficient lifestyle. If you too are thinking of a plant-based life with less stress, communing with nature, and being more creative, we may have a connection and that would be great. Not talking off-grid, I have to have Internet and lights, just a much smaller community that still holds values I did 30-40 years ago. So if you wanna chat and see where things go, the coffee/tea is on me. Here is some things about me ... I dislike this part as is sounds like I'm boasting, and that is not normal for me. Here are some of the personal highlights of my 50 plus years off the top of my head, and things like education and employment are not in there ;) - I have toured Europe, East and West, in the Early 80s in a punk band - Have created sculptures and artwork that sold and is publicly displayed - Worked as an assignment photographer for two newspapers and a news magazine - Own my own record label, and have composed and recorded nine complete albums - Along with friends, and supporters have started two totally different charities - Built my own home from the ground up with my own hands - Climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and slept with giraffes - Cycled and walked across all of Europe ... and none of these, or any one thing in my past defines me, because I believe that every day is a new one that holds endless possibilities, fun and adventure. Most of all no one should ever be limited by anything. Given enough time, effort and determination human beings can do amazing things, all of us.
