Long and winding road. Rural Texas upbringing. UTAustin, intending to be a physicist, but it was the late sixties and there were lots of distractions going by, many of which were wearing very tiny skirts, so, long story short, a stint in San Francisco and Berkeley as a charter member of the Hippies, and then an extended second act as an engineer running my small SoCal firm until, yippie, retirement. Please tell me I won't be putting "The End" up yet.
I never used tobacco and have not had an ounce of booze since 1971, being careful what I ingest; and I think it not at all incongruous that I am 420 friendly.
I believe that the physical Universe has an associated mentality, and have always felt that spirituality was my vocation, and engineering just my avocation. I believe that all consciousness is One, and had a motto placed on my bank checks stating that "Animals are our equals, there is no Master Race". But I think the established religions are just power freaks wanting an exclusive franchise on something powerful, and the whole New Age thing was too unscientific for me, although I LOVE New Agers, in general, with their fine states of consciousness making their superstitions not a turn off, in spite of their illogic. I have a country home polished over the decades to be just what I want, and, frankly, I stay at home a lot, surrounded by my own forest. Not agoraphobic, no fear of leaving ... but I have been Home, and I have been to numerous other places, and there really is no place like Home.
My favorite activity is singing, and I sing along with satellite radio for hours a day. I have a decent singing voice, and I would love to sing duets with someone every now and then, as we enjoyed our retirement hours. Also, I might mention that my coffee may be better than any other you have ever had ... I roast my own beans from the world's finest varieties and brew a quite unique creation of my own, which I call EspressoSanDiego. So if you take coffee as seriously as some do, I have suddenly gone near the top of your list.
PS please do not let my age deter you ... check my pix, and see what a lifetime of vegetarianism can do for health and appearance. I look quite a bit younger than what you would expect from a guy born in the first half of the 20th Century, and I'm not certain I ever matured emotionally beyond fourteen, or at least that's how old I see myself. Still fourteen.

Jewish ideals inform and guide in all aspects of life. These include honesty; respect for the sanctity of all life, which includes being veg*n; not hurting people's feelings or saying negative things about them; shunning gratuitous hatred of those who think differently; giving others the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to do the right thing; concern for the vulnerable and the disabled; having a higher purpose in life, including work; and learning for the sake of learning, including from everyone! Enjoy hiking, being in nature, lizard-watching, learning, artistic creativity, and dry and waggish humor (but not sarcasm). Adventurous but also risk-averse.

I stopped practicing clinical medicine 30 years ago when it was no longer possible to do so ethically. My magnum opus has been the definitive treatise on Jewish medicine, a moral, integrated philosophy and system of practice that is free of self-interest and that patients need not fear to enter.

Now my day job is web design. My nighttime passion is dancing. I devote much of my free time in dance practice as a competitive ballroom dancer I compete currently at the championship level throughout the US. I'm a former Stanford University adjunct professor where I taught social dance for 9 years. I also authored their social dance curriculum.
I enjoy movies/tv (esp. sci-fi), theatre (esp. musicals), occasional ice skating (I was quite adept in my 20s, but pretty rusty now), and chilling at a beach or retreat center. I use to do yoga, but not so much lately.

This might seem odd but for fun I collect trash. My kayak often looks more like a garbage scow as I gather plastics and other trash while kayaking on the river and at the beach. I mostly just find trash but I've found some interesting stuff too, including something the bomb squad had to blow up on the spot. I'm still waiting to find either a briefcase full of half a million dollars of drug money no one claims or a chest of pirate's treasure sticking half out of a sandbar.

After 22 years of teaching lots of Spanish and a little French, I'm an Ohio Supreme Court-certified Spanish-interpreter and interpreter-trainer. (I've been a news-junkie since the 80s, when my years in military intelligence left me addicted to knowing something about what the Hell's going on. Survived 317 parachute-jumps on three continents back in those days.) Also enjoy maintaining an old foreign car and motorcycle, feeding and watering yard-birds daily, spoiling my rescued dogs and cats, and spending quality time with a very small number of friends. I'm healthy as a Shetland pony. At 5'8", I weigh exactly what I did when I graduated from university in 1979, 134 pounds. Blood pressure: 100/60; total cholesterol: 165. No meds other than some aspirin every day. If you know the Briggs-Meyers scale, I'm an INFJ (more introverted than extroverted; more intuitive than sensing; (supposedly) more feeling than thinking; more judging than perceiving). I adore this stunningly beautiful planet and every non-human species that inhabits it (the species that humans haven't driven to extinction yet, at least), but I am a misanthropic antinatalist who considers our species to be a terminally self-obsessed, all-around, Earth-raping, animal-torturing disaster. I suppose I'm a Pagan, because it's the animals, Earth, Water, Air, and forests that I really worship. To be brutally honest, I don't have much respect for the "mainstream" religions - I've studied too much history and am too keen a watcher of current events! It would be an uphill struggle to try to have a balanced, respectful relationship with a woman who considers herself a "Christian" (of any type except possibly Gnostic), Jew, or Moslem, just as it would be hard for me to have a serious, long-term relationship with a woman who actually believes in the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus or even (my favorite!) the Easter Bunny.

I became widowed and retired at about the same time. I really did not have a plan or thought about this circumstance I find myself in. I have avoided eating animals for going on 15 years now.
