I'm a digital nomad (for lack of a better term) with a transient, minimalist lifestyle. I'm not opposed to settling down somewhere for the right person if visa runs are viable; I did this in Taiwan for years.
I've been self-employed since the age of 20 and have lived abroad since 2016. Originally from the USA, though I have no intention to live there again. To stay active, I particularly enjoy cycling and exploring on foot, as well as occasional hiking. At home I'm content with films/series, reading, and gaming. When I'm in a new city, I always like to check out the museums/galleries, parks, and botanic garden (if there is one), usually with camera in hand. I used to sell photos for a living, and photography remains a leisure hobby.
I enjoy my independence, although I must admit, ever since I was young I daydreamed of traveling with a partner. That remains my desire, but it seems most people's conception of "travel" is what they see on social media.

I spend a lot of time outdoors. I kayak, hike, bike, birdwatch, and love meeting all my wild neighbors. The year before Covid I also started taking surfing lessons.
I write and advocate for causes I care about and have had some successes. The circus no longer comes to my town, there's a beautiful preserved forest that does NOT have a cell phone tower, there's a large city park where ALL smoking is banned.....
My favorite issues are environmental, animal rights, and those concerning poverty and human rights. I think in another life I must have been a peasant in a peasant uprising.
This might seem odd but for fun I collect trash. My kayak often looks more like a garbage scow as I gather plastics and other trash while kayaking on the river and at the beach. I mostly just find trash but I've found some interesting stuff too, including something the bomb squad had to blow up on the spot. I'm still waiting to find either a briefcase full of half a million dollars of drug money no one claims or a chest of pirate's treasure sticking half out of a sandbar.
I love gardening... for wildlife, for food, for beauty, organically, and with native plants.

truthfully:I have spent most of my previous life trying to fit in to a society that often does not truly understand me or my motivations. I once though that love truly could overcome all and found out that truth its self is the only thing that can't be overcome, and is often blind to the fact that one may be attracted to someone or that one may have fallen in love with someone that truly is not good for them. I became widowed and retired at about the same time. I really did not have a plan or thought about this circumstance I find myself in. I have avoided eating animals for going on 15 years now. When I considered meeting new people, I found that I am not interested in building new friendships or bonding with people that do not share my thoughts and beliefs about plant-based eating. I am nearly 70, so why waste the effort. I have old friends who just think I'm weird, and have known me long enough to be accepting of my quirks, being vegan is just another one. Strive to live a simple, nonmaterialistic, meaningful, and purposeful life. I'm a Luddite at heart, reminiscing about the halcyon days when we weren't overdependent on technology. I embrace sechel, not artificial intelligence, and modesty, not social media. 不患莫己知，求为可知也。"Don't fret about not being well-known; instead, strive to be worthy of being known" (Analects, book 4, verse 14). Jewish ideals inform and guide in all aspects of life. These include honesty; respect for the sanctity of all life, which includes being veg*n; not hurting people's feelings or saying negative things about them; shunning gratuitous hatred of those who think differently; giving others the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to do the right thing; concern for the vulnerable and the disabled; having a higher purpose in life, including work; and learning for the sake of learning, including from everyone! But people with similar values come from many paths in life, the ultimate expression of which is being a mensch or, as Confucius termed it, a jūnzǐ (君子), someone who sets an example through his or her actions, which speak louder than words.
Enjoy hiking, being in nature, lizard-watching, learning, artistic creativity, and dry and waggish humor (but not sarcasm). Introverted and sometimes lost in thought, but hopefully thoughtful in more ways than one! Look for ways to help others while avoiding self-serving feelings like validation and pride. Adventurous but also risk-averse.
I live in the desert, which teaches humility, not only because we are dwarfed by the majestic mountains and the expansive valleys but also because we are humbled by the miraculous, mind-blowing adaptations that allow life in all its forms to not merely survive but thrive in the most challenging of environments. Nature can be our teacher and help us improve our character traits.
I stopped practicing clinical medicine 30 years ago when it was no longer possible to do so ethically. My magnum opus has been the definitive treatise on Jewish medicine, a moral, integrated philosophy and system of practice that is free of self-interest and that patients need not fear to enter.
