Since my best friend, Dougald, left this world on June 28th this year,
My sadness hasn't diminished even a single day.
But the times of sadness have gradually decreased.
Most of us have feelings.
When we're sad, we don't need to resist it,
But rather understand why we're sad.
This experience of losing a dear friend
Has made me feel immense regret for his short life!
Because he was such a kind person!
Many say that for every effect, there's a cause.
Perhaps his early passing was due to this causal relationship.
I understand very well how the law of attraction works.
When you're happy,
The vibration you emit attracts things related to happiness.
When you're sad, you attract similar things that make you sad.
When you're angry, you attract similar things that make you angry.
... and so on.
So, to have a fulfilling life, the vibration you emit is crucial!
You can be sad, but don't let it persist for too long.
Learn how to transform sadness into strength.
When you're feeling down, realize that
Most people don't know how to control their emotions.
If you could handle it with a relaxed attitude, they wouldn't affect you.
Impermanence is a normal part of life; there's no need to lament it.
The important thing is to accept impermanence and strive to do what you love.
It will make you want to live a more meaningful, fulfilling, and joyful life!

I grew up in Ohio and lived in Utah and California before moving to New York and recently moved back to Ohio. I have been vegan since September 2008 (vegetarian about a year and a half before switching). I have worked helping animals for the past 13+ years. I started as an adoption counselor at a humane society in Ohio, than a dog caregiver at a large sanctuary in Utah, and for over 8 years I was a caregiver for farm animals at a sanctuary. I have a degree in Criminal Justice, but after a few years realized that helping animals was the direction I wanted to go with my career and life, and I haven't had any regrets. I have one four legged child who runs my life (no two legged ones for me). When I am not taking care of the animals at work or my girl at home, I enjoy spending time outside going for walks, hikes and biking. Being a vegan has not been easy for me, and that's a dramatic understatement. My family was not accepting or understanding when I decided to adopt a vegan diet, and it's had lasting effects.
When I first began eliminating foods from my diet, my parents didn't know what to make of it. They thought I was crazy, and reacted with fear and hostility. They took me to psychiatrists who tried to discourage me from going vegan; I was banned from eating at the dinner table with my parents (I could only eat after my father was in bed); and other family members refused to speak/associate with me, afraid that my vegan "insanity" was contagious and they might catch it.
Perhaps worst of all, my parents, especially my mother, began controlling all aspects of my life. My mother has always been a "smother-mother," or "helicopter-mom" but after I finished high school and became a vegan, it became exponentially worse. She now controls about everything in my life, and it's absolutely suffocating. I'm not allowed to do anything or go anywhere without her permission.
But she thinks it's for my own good; that she's protecting me. She thinks, if left on my own, I'd never make it. That the world would eat me alive. Which is why I'm reaching out here: to try to connect with other vegans, hopefully find a soulmate, and escape from the unhealthy and soul-crushing authority of my parents.
And of course, I'm not perfect (that doesn't mean I stray from my veganism, which is incredibly important to me). I have flaws, and I want to be honest about them. I think it's only fair to any potential partner. I have depression (largely from the way people have treated me over the years, but it also runs in my family), as well as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, which is an anxiety disorder (if you've ever watched the show "Monk," you might be familiar with it).
But that doesn't mean I'm not still a good person. I'm an introvert, sensitive, quiet, patient, and a good listener. I'm very low-key, and a home-body (yet in my current situation, I'm very lonely).
I'm trying to be a writer (short stories, novels, graphic novels, poetry), and am very much the artistic/intellectual type. I wanted to be an actor, but my parents forbade it. I also used to paint/draw, but my parents took away my art supplies, and now I just don't have the time anymore. I haven't had much luck in publishing, other than letters to the editor and a few online articles for an animal rights group.
