Humor is so important because it engenders and represents hope, something we all need. And no one has ever died of laughter. Is that what's meant by "humoral immunity"? ;)
Strive to live a simple, nonmaterialistic, meaningful, and purposeful life. I'm a Luddite at heart, reminiscing about the halcyon days when we weren't overdependent on technology. I embrace sechel, not artificial intelligence, and modesty, not social media. 不患莫己知，求为可知也。"Don't fret about not being well-known; instead, strive to be worthy of being known" (Analects, book 4, verse 14). Jewish ideals inform and guide in all aspects of life. These include honesty and evenhandedness, including not saying anything essentially true but meant to mislead (as in PR/marketing/media); not hurting people's feelings or saying negative things about them; giving others the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to do the right thing; having a higher purpose in life, including work; and learning for the sake of learning, including from everyone! But people with similar values come from many paths in life, the ultimate expression of which is being a mensch or, as Confucius termed it, a junzi, someone who sets an example through his or her actions, which speak louder than words.
Enjoy hiking, being in nature, lizard-watching, learning, artistic creativity, and dry and waggish humor (but not sarcasm). Introverted and sometimes lost in thought, but hopefully thoughtful in more ways than one! Look for ways to help others while avoiding self-serving feelings like validation and pride. Adventurous but also risk-averse.
Love the natural environment in which I live, but the beauty of any place derives mainly from who's around you. Very willing to relocate.

Since my best friend, Dougald, left this world on June 28th this year,
My sadness hasn't diminished even a single day.
But the times of sadness have gradually decreased.
Most of us have feelings.
When we're sad, we don't need to resist it,
But rather understand why we're sad.
This experience of losing a dear friend
Has made me feel immense regret for his short life!
Because he was such a kind person!
Many say that for every effect, there's a cause.
Perhaps his early passing was due to this causal relationship.
I understand very well how the law of attraction works.
When you're happy,
The vibration you emit attracts things related to happiness.
When you're sad, you attract similar things that make you sad.
When you're angry, you attract similar things that make you angry.
... and so on.
So, to have a fulfilling life, the vibration you emit is crucial!
You can be sad, but don't let it persist for too long.
Learn how to transform sadness into strength.
When you're feeling down, realize that
Most people don't know how to control their emotions.
If you could handle it with a relaxed attitude, they wouldn't affect you.
Impermanence is a normal part of life; there's no need to lament it.
The important thing is to accept impermanence and strive to do what you love.
It will make you want to live a more meaningful, fulfilling, and joyful life!

I became widowed and retired at about the same time. I really did not have a plan or thought about this circumstance I find myself in. I have avoided eating animals for going on 15 years now. When I considered meeting new people, I found that I am not interested in building new friendships or bonding with people that do not share my thoughts and beliefs about plant-based eating. I am nearly 70, so why waste the effort. I have old friends who just think I'm weird, and have known me long enough to be accepting of my quirks, being vegan is just another one. When I thought about dating again, I decided they must be plant-based, vegan or vegetarian. My sweet wife was all of those at different times. I like to be active and keep in decent shape; not buff, but not pudgy either… kind of a happy medium! I like to do things outdoors and be active, but I have to admit I can Netflix Binge with the best of them, or spend an entire day moving from couch, to chair, to lawn chair, to bed, and back to the couch reading good a book. I’m pretty middle of the road politically. I used to lean more to the right, but now lean more to the left. I strongly believe in doing what we can to minimize climate change. I spend most of my time in El Paso where i work, but also own a home in Albuquerque where my two of my children live. I visit them every few months. I also have a daughter in Minneapolis and a son in Virginia Beach who I visit once or twice a year. I would love to travel more but work gets in the way. My ‘plan’ is to cut back to 20 hrs/week at age 62 and I’m on track to meet that goal. I’m excited and apprehensive about it at the same time. I sooo want to work less, but I sooo sooo don’t want to be bored. I think going part-time will be a good stepping stone for me, and will give me more time to travel. In the meantime, I’m just enjoying my job and interacting with my clients and co-workers and visiting my kiddos when I can.

I grew up in Ohio and lived in Utah and California before moving to New York and recently moved back to Ohio. I have been vegan since September 2008 (vegetarian about a year and a half before switching). I have worked helping animals for the past 13+ years. I started as an adoption counselor at a humane society in Ohio, than a dog caregiver at a large sanctuary in Utah, and for over 8 years I was a caregiver for farm animals at a sanctuary. I travel lightly. My home looks like I just moved in. As I deal in product I don't need much stuff. Easier to stay organized that way.
Putzing around a calm home helps me relax. I read, mess with the cat, take hot baths, drink a cup of tea, light a candle, catch a drama, documentary, Westworld, Indie or a foreign flick. I'm generally in bed early so I can work out the next day. For health and sanity.
I grew up internationally. SF is my home town - having lived here for 25 years - but high on my list is to visit Scandinavia part of the year. My parents are aging and my son lives there. It's a pretty nice place to be from... I would love to see more of the world as well. Searching for the next place to eat, finding street food, following in the footsteps of Haruki Murakami's and absorb the local culture from a cafe chair is good enough for me.
