I lived and was raised in the rural area of Muscatine, IA (from 1954-1974) along the Mississippi River where most of the food we ate was organic (before it actually became labeled organic as it is now) and drank free, unfiltered spring-fed water (before bottled water got popular) while growing up…FYI, I was one of the last of the fortunate school kids to have attended real, authentic one-room country schoolhouses with a real outhouse(!), outdoor hand-pump for well water, the school bell to ring, the American flag to raise and actually SAY the pledge of allegiance to the American flag inside and say the Lord's Prayer all together…Wonderful, cherished, youthful memories...

I'm a typical liberal arts person and an atheist. As to the atheist part, I think there's something much smarter than us in the universe, but it's been awfully quiet. I like eating at vegan restaurants, there are several within a few minutes of me. Often I'm quiet, sometimes not, it depends on the situation. I like to be witty and can get in a Monty Python mode if someone is receptive to it. I'll talk about anything but run from someone who wants to argue. I'm creative and always need some kind of project, usually it's writing or music. Most people like music, but I am a bit of a nut about blues, rock, and jazz. I've written some clever songs, IMHO. I'm flexible and will usually do anything others want to do, but I'm not big on travel, especially long trips. I've always been aware that my life is finite and I should live it fully, yet it has been simpler things like spending time with animals and nature that have met that need the most. I like people but am more comfortable in one-on-one conversations than in groups.

I am a Southern Baptist refugee, Buddhist after Episcopal experience, and won't argue or disrespect anyone's (non-violent) beliefs. I was introduced to Zazen meditation by a Jesuit priest, and have practiced for years. I have long pondered philosophical questions (still do), and intend to continue my quest to be confused at a higher level (e.g. from epistemology to ontology).
I went to college for engineering, and worked with computers in many industries and several countries, and have traveled for fun and romance.
I am staff for a cat. I enjoy communing with nature.
I was married (long time), divorced, and last year lost my long-time partner to Alzheimer’s (we had met here in 2011). I learned some hard lessons (see disasters, above...).
I like to read, practice yoga and meditation, drink coffee and converse, travel, and learn. I like museums, art, architecture, history, music, and theater. My sadness hasn't diminished even a single day.

Most of us have feelings.
When we're sad, we don't need to resist it,

This experience of losing a dear friend
Has made me feel immense regret for his short life!
Because he was such a kind person!
Many say that for every effect, there's a cause.
Perhaps his early passing was due to this causal relationship.
I understand very well how the law of attraction works.
When you're happy,
The vibration you emit attracts things related to happiness.
When you're sad, you attract similar things that make you sad.
When you're angry, you attract similar things that make you angry.
... and so on.
So, to have a fulfilling life, the vibration you emit is crucial!
You can be sad, but don't let it persist for too long.
Learn how to transform sadness into strength.
When you're feeling down, realize that
Most people don't know how to control their emotions.
If you could handle it with a relaxed attitude, they wouldn't affect you.
Impermanence is a normal part of life; there's no need to lament it.
The important thing is to accept impermanence and strive to do what you love.
It will make you want to live a more meaningful, fulfilling, and joyful life!

What a platform to start a conversation here. I certainly agree that animal research for vaccines is wrong, wrong, wrong. Sometimes we have to go outside our comfort zone. I am sure if I were younger, I would stand by morals and not take a vaccine that may contain animal and has been tested on animals. I guess we all go through phases at different times in our lives and sometimes our views change. In Islam, their belief is that if you consume an animal, and it is prayed over, it will be used for wellness and holiness in the person consuming it.

Humor is so important because it engenders and represents hope, something we all need. And no one has ever died of laughter. Is that what's meant by "humoral immunity"? ;)
Strive to live a simple, nonmaterialistic, meaningful, and purposeful life. I'm a Luddite at heart, reminiscing about the halcyon days when we weren't overdependent on technology. I embrace sechel, not artificial intelligence, and modesty, not social media. Jewish ideals inform and guide in all aspects of life. These include honesty and evenhandedness, including not saying anything essentially true but meant to mislead (as in PR/marketing/media); shunning invidious (derogatory, hurtful, offensive) speech and actions; giving others the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to do the right thing; having a higher purpose in life, including work; and learning for the sake of learning, including from everyone! But people with similar values come from many paths in life, the ultimate expression of which is being a mensch or, as Confucius termed it, a junzi, someone who sets an example through his or her actions, which speak louder than words.
Enjoy hiking, being in nature, lizard-watching, learning, artistic creativity, and dry and waggish humor (but not sarcasm). Introverted and sometimes lost in thought, but hopefully thoughtful in more ways than one! Look for ways to help others while avoiding self-serving feelings like validation and pride. Adventurous but also risk-averse.
Love the natural environment in which I live, but the beauty of any place derives mainly from who's around you. Very willing to relocate.

An Old-School Romantic, looking for my lady love. A lifetime of vegetarianism plus my family's unusual longevity enable me to look and act much younger than my age, and if you listened to an .mp3 recording of my singing, you would immediately know the nature of my Heart better than a half dozen dates would impart. So with these July, 2026, pix and if I can send a song, you should know right away whether I might be appealing or just another dud.
Biography: A long and winding road. .Rural Texas upbringing. UTAustin, intending to be a physicist, but it was the late sixties and there were lots of distractions going by, many of which were wearing very tiny skirts, so, long story short, a stint in San Francisco and Berkeley as a charter member of the Hippies, and then an extended second act as an engineer running my small SoCal firm until, yippie, retirement. Please tell me I won't be putting "The End" up yet.
I believe that the physical Universe has an associated mentality, and have always felt that spirituality was my vocation, and engineering just my avocation. I believe that all consciousness is One, and had a motto placed on my bank checks stating that "Animals are our equals, there is no Master Race". But I think the established religions are just power freaks wanting an exclusive franchise on something powerful, and the whole New Age thing was too unscientific for me, although I LOVE New Agers, in general, with their fine states of consciousness making their superstitions not a turn off, in spite of their illogic. I have a country home polished over the decades to be just what I want, and, frankly, I stay at home a lot, surrounded by my own forest. Not agoraphobic, no fear of leaving ... but I have been Home, and I have been to numerous other places, and there really is no place like Home.
My favorite activity is singing. I recorded 15 songs onto a CD, as a Bucket List item. ... Oh, and I roast my own beans from the world's finest varieties and brew a quite unique creation of my own, which I call EspressoSanDiego. So if you take coffee as seriously as some do, I may have suddenly gone near the top of your list.
PS please do not let my age deter you ... I look quite a bit younger than what you would expect from a guy born in the first half of the 20th Century, and I'm not certain I ever matured emotionally beyond fourteen, or at least that's how old I see myself. Still fourteen.
