I've spent most of my life in California...kept moving north and now live in Washington State. Worked as an outside sales rep before becoming an elementary school teacher. For most of my career I taught music education, and also taught 2nd and 3rd grades. Happily retired since 2012.
I have two sons and four adorable grandchildren, and enjoy being part of their lives and watching them all grow.

I spend a lot of time outdoors. I kayak, hike, bike, birdwatch, and love meeting all my wild neighbors. The year before Covid I also started taking surfing lessons.
I write and advocate for causes I care about and have had some successes. The circus no longer comes to my town, there's a beautiful preserved forest that does NOT have a cell phone tower, there's a large city park where ALL smoking is banned.....
My favorite issues are environmental, animal rights, and those concerning poverty and human rights. I think in another life I must have been a peasant in a peasant uprising.
This might seem odd but for fun I collect trash. My kayak often looks more like a garbage scow as I gather plastics and other trash while kayaking on the river and at the beach. I mostly just find trash but I've found some interesting stuff too, including something the bomb squad had to blow up on the spot. I'm still waiting to find either a briefcase full of half a million dollars of drug money no one claims or a chest of pirate's treasure sticking half out of a sandbar.
I love gardening... for wildlife, for food, for beauty, organically, and with native plants.
I enjoy a variety of things and am always eager to learn new ones. I'm open to suggestions.....

A tapestry of perspectives and playfulness intertwined with intrigue and bantering wit could describe the first melding of our colorful personalities. The next date might include a dash of romance over blackened rainbow trout (vegan option) sautued with garlic, lemon, Bragg and orange juice, with a side of artichoke and tantalizing veggies, followed by a board game in front of a cozy, crackling fire (winner tickles loser! ) and maybe a spontaneous beach stroll from my patio. It could be unforgettably romantic if in the company of my soulmate. I enjoy traveling and even traveled Europe for years. Unfortunately, it was the first two years of my life and I don't remember any of the sights! I feel comfortable with myself around others, but have found myself being a conformists in one breath and a rebel in the next. Friends say my greatest outer attributes are my enthusiasm and smile; still, on the inside, compassion and sincerity take precedence. What is your soulwater? Would you drink or swim in it, or would it be an occassional poem? Whatever the case, envision it better with me. I can occasionally be found protecting inventions from chicanerous copycats, but my passion is for that charitable profession, and also for helping others outside of work.

I became widowed and retired at about the same time. I really did not have a plan or thought about this circumstance I find myself in. I have avoided eating animals for going on 15 years now. When I considered meeting new people, I found that I am not interested in building new friendships or bonding with people that do not share my thoughts and beliefs about plant-based eating. I am nearly 70, so why waste the effort. I have old friends who just think I'm weird, and have known me long enough to be accepting of my quirks, being vegan is just another one. When I thought about dating again, I decided they must be plant-based, vegan or vegetarian. My sweet wife was all of those at different times.
