Since my best friend, Dougald, left this world on June 28th this year,
My sadness hasn't diminished even a single day.
But the times of sadness have gradually decreased.
Most of us have feelings.
When we're sad, we don't need to resist it,
But rather understand why we're sad.
This experience of losing a dear friend
Has made me feel immense regret for his short life!
Because he was such a kind person!
Many say that for every effect, there's a cause.
Perhaps his early passing was due to this causal relationship.
I understand very well how the law of attraction works.
When you're happy,
The vibration you emit attracts things related to happiness.
When you're sad, you attract similar things that make you sad.
When you're angry, you attract similar things that make you angry.
... and so on.
So, to have a fulfilling life, the vibration you emit is crucial!
You can be sad, but don't let it persist for too long.
Learn how to transform sadness into strength.
When you're feeling down, realize that
Most people don't know how to control their emotions.
If you could handle it with a relaxed attitude, they wouldn't affect you.
Impermanence is a normal part of life; there's no need to lament it.
The important thing is to accept impermanence and strive to do what you love.
It will make you want to live a more meaningful, fulfilling, and joyful life!

Humor is so important because it engenders and represents hope, something we all need. And no one has ever died of laughter. Is that what's meant by "humoral immunity"? ;)
Strive to live a simple, nonmaterialistic, meaningful, and purposeful life. I'm a Luddite at heart, reminiscing about the halcyon days when we weren't overdependent on technology. I embrace sechel, not artificial intelligence, and modesty, not social media. 不患莫己知，求为可知也。"Don't fret about not being well-known; instead, strive to be worthy of being known" (Analects, book 4, verse 14). Jewish ideals inform and guide in all aspects of life. These include honesty and evenhandedness, including not saying anything essentially true but meant to mislead (as in PR/marketing/media); not hurting people's feelings or saying negative things about them; giving others the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to do the right thing; having a higher purpose in life, including work; and learning for the sake of learning, including from everyone! But people with similar values come from many paths in life, the ultimate expression of which is being a mensch or, as Confucius termed it, a junzi, someone who sets an example through his or her actions, which speak louder than words.
Enjoy hiking, being in nature, lizard-watching, learning, artistic creativity, and dry and waggish humor (but not sarcasm). Introverted and sometimes lost in thought, but hopefully thoughtful in more ways than one! Look for ways to help others while avoiding self-serving feelings like validation and pride. Adventurous but also risk-averse.
Love the natural environment in which I live, but the beauty of any place derives mainly from who's around you. Very willing to relocate.

I'm a small business owner and I LOVE my profession. It makes me INCREDIBLY HAPPY... but sometimes (mostly seasonally) I work insanely long hours, and I need someone who is understanding of this. I don't see myself relocating my business.
Life is good. :) I have small close group of lifelong friends that are my chosen family. Several of them are vegan who also love to cook, so our gatherings always include lots of vegan food. Together we often enjoy board games, card games, escape rooms, bocce, and campfires.
A few of years ago I met a small group of compassionate people through a mindfulness based meditation group. Together we started a small community giving-garden. It's a project that is close to my heart, and I donate time there at least once a week sometimes more. Being a vegan has not been easy for me, and that's a dramatic understatement. My family was not accepting or understanding when I decided to adopt a vegan diet, and it's had lasting effects.
When I first began eliminating foods from my diet, my parents didn't know what to make of it. They thought I was crazy, and reacted with fear and hostility. They took me to psychiatrists who tried to discourage me from going vegan; I was banned from eating at the dinner table with my parents (I could only eat after my father was in bed); and other family members refused to speak/associate with me, afraid that my vegan "insanity" was contagious and they might catch it.
Perhaps worst of all, my parents, especially my mother, began controlling all aspects of my life. My mother has always been a "smother-mother," or "helicopter-mom" but after I finished high school and became a vegan, it became exponentially worse. She now controls about everything in my life, and it's absolutely suffocating. I'm not allowed to do anything or go anywhere without her permission.
But she thinks it's for my own good; that she's protecting me. She thinks, if left on my own, I'd never make it. That the world would eat me alive. Which is why I'm reaching out here: to try to connect with other vegans, hopefully find a soulmate, and escape from the unhealthy and soul-crushing authority of my parents.
And of course, I'm not perfect (that doesn't mean I stray from my veganism, which is incredibly important to me). I have flaws, and I want to be honest about them. I think it's only fair to any potential partner. I have depression (largely from the way people have treated me over the years, but it also runs in my family), as well as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, which is an anxiety disorder (if you've ever watched the show "Monk," you might be familiar with it).
But that doesn't mean I'm not still a good person. I'm an introvert, sensitive, quiet, patient, and a good listener. I'm very low-key, and a home-body (yet in my current situation, I'm very lonely).
I'm trying to be a writer (short stories, novels, graphic novels, poetry), and am very much the artistic/intellectual type. I wanted to be an actor, but my parents forbade it. I also used to paint/draw, but my parents took away my art supplies, and now I just don't have the time anymore. I haven't had much luck in publishing, other than letters to the editor and a few online articles for an animal rights group.

I am an author anthropologist who started my career working with gorillas and exploring gorilla culture. I eventually moved into other animal cultures academically. I grew up internationally. SF is my home town - having lived here for 25 years - but high on my list is to visit Scandinavia part of the year. My parents are aging and my son lives there. It's a pretty nice place to be from... I would love to see more of the world as well. Searching for the next place to eat, finding street food, following in the footsteps of Haruki Murakami's and absorb the local culture from a cafe chair is good enough for me.

Life is so much richer sharing experiences with that special someone than being alone. I like to go cycling , traveling, work out, want to get back into some kind of hobby, the usual that most people like to do. I've been a vegan for over half my life now! Although I don't consider myself to be of any particular religion, I love learning about various religions - Buddhism in particular. I meditate for about 30 minutes a day. I'm also an avid walker and find it quite difficult to stay indoors when it's a nice day.
