  2. atmarama   There was a rumor that Russia had outlawed vegetarian diet. But this may have been a part of a particular deprogramming effort. Google says that tourists can get some of their Vegetarian dietary needs. Some of their culture groups are predominantly vegetarian. Vegetarian Tourists beware. Some areas are big on meat eating. Some institutions in the USA are big on meat-eating.

  4. MilwaukeeProf   I'd hesitate travel anyway since so many people in so many parts of the world eat animals of one kind or another. The choice seems to eat it and betray my values in order to fit in and act like a happy tourist or stick with my values and unintentionally insult everyone around me (and draw unwanted attention to myself) by refusing to engage in their barbaric practices. I'll stay home and eat beans, thanks.

VegInNotOut   I have to believe that is a very individual consideration... for me, it is important, but it is someone's mind that either attracts and excites me, or it will just be a friendship if that is of interest. I don't think that connection can be consciously created or improved on but I am open to learning that I'm wrong. :)

  13. MilwaukeeProf   Where on Earth do you find all this fascinating information? I once tried making tempeh. Even when I have bought it, it is not my favorite. Once time I tried doing my own gluten "ribs." The sauce recipe contained peanut butter, among other things, and came from a book called "the Farm," produced by people on a commune in Tennessee. I lent the book to a friend who never returned it. Recipe is now gone.:(

  14. atmarama   Google and YouTube has all kinds of helpful information. But opinions differ even between professionals. For instance, there seems to be a disagreement regarding estrogen and testosterone. Could foods that are believed to help estrogen be a health risk for men. This puts soy and flaxseed on the witness stand. And are complaints against Quorn, Soy, and Peanuts exaggerated? Thank you

  15. MilwaukeeProf   Soy products are now on my very own "enemies list." I was taking soy every day, having bought into the myth of how great it is. Turns out that it is highly allergenic and that I am sensitive to it! Lucky me! Using it harmed my thyroid, inflamed my digestive tract, played hell with absorption, facilitated bone loss and my shrinking about half an inch. Other than that it is wonderful....

  16. atmarama   Quite! Is there any food that has absolutely no conceivable potential for an allergic response? Soy seems to have an extra risk for women and can affect hormonal health. But the opinion between professionals is not always in agreement. Apparently Tempeh does not have to be made with soy. There is chickpea, other beans, and grains. Raw Tempeh may serve as very valuable Probiotic. Probiotics can be rather expensive.

  30. dragonfly422   There is something that I must address: when someone fills in their profile, and for dating they mark "any" age instead of a specific younger age, it makes me think that the person is willing to date someone under adult age. Does anyone agree or disagree?

  34. atmarama   With the Hare Krsna belief there is an unusual Grey area regarding marriage in general. There is a whole holy order regarding the renunciation of marriage and there are special arguments and concerns in this regard. I am not wanting to say it, but ultimately the Hare Krsna belief has an underlying understanding that marriage, fruitive labor, and so much bodily identification is less intelligent. However, in the extreme there is brief mention of the child bride in the Hare Krsna teachings. In different areas of the world there are probably specific laws regarding the child bride. In Mississippi the law might be parental consent for an underage girl. But the younger the girl then there becomes a need for a court hearing. The average age difference for marriage more openly stated in the Hare Krsna teachings is for the bride to be around five years younger. Men are very much encouraged to make austere vows and renounce marriage as much as possible. But those interested in marriage need to plan that really well. Other beliefs may even seem

  39. CustomerCare   VC registrants must be 18 or older. By 18 years old, one can legally engage in sexual relations and marry in all 50 US states and most countries in the world. Interesting factoids: In Delaware, the age of consent was 10 years until 1871 when it was lowered to 7 years old. The penalty for sex with a girl below the age of consent was death. In 1880, 37 US states set the age of consent at 10 years. As of August 1, 2018, the age of consent in each state in the US is now either 16, 17, or 18 years old.

  40. atmarama   This relates to the rearing of children. During their early years a child normally does not know what sex is. The adults in the household are challenged to be great role models. In the more normal circumstances adults are challenged to be great role models throughout the child's duration as a student. The older the child gets the more difficult it is for the child to remain virginal in their understanding. Thank you

  43. shear37   Some use animal testing as an excuse to not get the Covid vaccine. If you're willing to risk death to take a stand for animals please choose a better battle, not one where millions of other people will also die if enough people follow your lead. Covid has killed over 4 million people so far. Vaccines are the best chance to stop it. Until enough people are vaccinated there will be breakthrough infections of the vaccinated, deaths of those with weak immune systems despite being vaccinated, and more deadly mutations (making current vaccines ineffective). That would mean millions more dying, business shutdowns, and endless quarantines. I'm vegan. The last animal I ate was in 1987. I'm proud of all the successes I've accomplished personally and for causes both locally and as part of national campaigns. But this isn't a perfect vegan world. I can only do the best I can with what I have to work with. I can't save all animals. I can't save all people. Sadly the US, like most of the world, still requires animal testing for all approved vaccines, medications, and medical procedures. If you use that as your excuse to not help end a deadly pandemic hopefully you are consistent. You also refuse to allow doctors to set your broken bones or perform life saving surgery. You never use pain pills, birth control pills, or asthma inhalers. You of course stopped visiting dentists long ago. You never own or ride in cars, buses, planes, ambulances, or bicycles since most tires (and many other car parts) contain animal ingredients... as do many plastics, computer and mobile phone screens, and batteries. And we all know what the oil industry does to wildlife. So the only traveling you do is by foot, but only after making sure your sneakers use plant based glues. But don't walk on roads. Beef fat is used in asphalt. Oh yea, fruits and vegetables are grown with either organic or chemical pesticides. So even a field of organic broccoli is genocide to many insects and rodents. As vegans we all draw our lines in the sand at different places as best we can. But if your line in the sand is to allow a pandemic to continue, that is beyond irresponsible. A study found that the former inept president's mishandling of this crisis caused 400,000 more Americans to die. He's gone. From now on the unvaccinated will be blamed for most Covid deaths. Many medical experts are now saying that if you are not vaccinated you will eventually get Covid. Before being diagnosed you will on average infect nine other people. If you survive it may mean serious life long health consequences. If your ideals cause you to remain unvaccinated please isolate yourself. That includes giving away your pets since they can catch Covid too. No need to make them, or the rest of us, suffer for your ideals. We need to stop Covid before it gets worse. Then we can continue to advocate for less animal testing in the medical industry.

  47. shear37   Thanks to everyone who got the vaccine. You care about and are doing something about the welfare of others. Last week a video went viral of a man ranting at anti-vaxxers because his wife who has stage 4 cancer has to periodically go into the hospital. Last week she was discharged early because they needed the bed for Covid patients. The man had a good question for anti-vaxxers. If they don't trust doctors when doctors say to take the vaccine why do they trust doctors to cure them when they get Covid? He said be consistent. Stay home and hope for the best. But don't take hospital beds away from people like his wife who trust doctors and need their help. I would add that people like his wife deserve help more. If there are limited beds send the anti-vaxxers home. They made their choice. Hopefully anti-vaxxers using animal testing as an excuse already know to refuse all medical help anyway. Last year Covid raged across the US because of inaction by a president who called it a hoax. By May of this year everyone in the US who wanted a vaccine could get one. By late June and early July it looked like the US was returning to normal. But then anti-vaxxers allowed the Delta variant to surge through July and August causing rising infections and deaths, turning schools into hot zones, and even threatening the vaccinated who have weak immune systems. Kids are dying, many spending their last days isolated from family and surrounded only by people in hazmat suits. This is all on anti-vaxxers and their dismissal of science, belief in conspiracy theories, joining the GOP death cult, and selfish excuses. They lack concern for the welfare of others in their communities. Get the vaccine! If you won't then stay home. Stay away from the rest of us. At least Flat Earther ignorance never killed anyone.
