Animal welfare/animal rights are extremely important to me. Over the years, I have also rescued and provided hospice care for senior dogs and cats. I'm only interested in men with big hearts full of unconditional love and compassion. I'm a retired journalist (writer and editor) and college instructor.
Spiritual/inner growth is crucial to me. It's all part of the same idea, as experiencing and expressing love and compassion for all beings (including myself) are my focus and goal. I believe in the law of attraction and that we are all here to learn and grow in the Earth School. I'm interested in a variety of metaphysical studies, but being grounded is important to me, as is maintaining a sense of inner peace and gratitude. I'm sensitive to noise and crowds, fragrance and chemical odors, and enjoy a peaceful and fairly quiet lifestyle at this point in my journey. I'm more a homebody than someone interested in travel and wild adventures in the external world. Politically I'm extremely liberal.
Other interests include energy healing, psychology, writing, reading, natural/organic foods and nutrition, environmental issues, arts, nature, volunteering, alternative/holistic healing, walking, meaningful movies, theater, some concerts, inner growth activities, outdoor cafes, and more. Not into camping, backpacking, motorcycles, bars/nightclubs, loud music, frequent socializing, or sports (although I'd enjoy seeing the Yankees win the World Series).

Since my best friend, Dougald, left this world on June 28th this year,
My sadness hasn't diminished even a single day.
But the times of sadness have gradually decreased.
Most of us have feelings.
When we're sad, we don't need to resist it,
But rather understand why we're sad.
This experience of losing a dear friend
Has made me feel immense regret for his short life!
Because he was such a kind person!
Many say that for every effect, there's a cause.
Perhaps his early passing was due to this causal relationship.
I understand very well how the law of attraction works.
When you're happy,
The vibration you emit attracts things related to happiness.
When you're sad, you attract similar things that make you sad.
When you're angry, you attract similar things that make you angry.
... and so on.
So, to have a fulfilling life, the vibration you emit is crucial!
You can be sad, but don't let it persist for too long.
Learn how to transform sadness into strength.
When you're feeling down, realize that
Most people don't know how to control their emotions.
If you could handle it with a relaxed attitude, they wouldn't affect you.
Impermanence is a normal part of life; there's no need to lament it.
The important thing is to accept impermanence and strive to do what you love.
It will make you want to live a more meaningful, fulfilling, and joyful life!

I am a Southern Baptist refugee, Buddhist after Episcopal experience, and won't argue or disrespect anyone's (non-violent) beliefs. I was introduced to Zazen meditation by a Jesuit priest, and have practiced for years. I have long pondered philosophical questions (still do), and intend to continue my quest to be confused at a higher level (e.g. from epistemology to ontology).
I went to college for engineering, and worked with computers in many industries and several countries, and have traveled for fun and romance.

I was married (long time), divorced, and last year lost my long-time partner to Alzheimer’s (we had met here in 2011). I learned some hard lessons (see disasters, above...).
I like to read, practice yoga and meditation, drink coffee and converse, travel, and learn. I like museums, art, architecture, history, music, and theater. I grew up in Ohio and lived in Utah and California before moving to New York and recently moved back to Ohio. I have been vegan since September 2008 (vegetarian about a year and a half before switching). I have worked helping animals for the past 13+ years. I started as an adoption counselor at a humane society in Ohio, than a dog caregiver at a large sanctuary in Utah, and for over 8 years I was a caregiver for farm animals at a sanctuary. I have a degree in Criminal Justice, but after a few years realized that helping animals was the direction I wanted to go with my career and life, and I haven't had any regrets. I have one four legged child who runs my life (no two legged ones for me). When I am not taking care of the animals at work or my girl at home, I enjoy spending time outside going for walks, hikes and biking.
