Hobbies include daily exercise (with full body resistance training every other day), consuming content from NPR (especially via KQED Radio) and the PBS Newshour, and pursuing opportunities to help better myself or support the world around me :). Other than that, though, I'm very open to new experiences or activities, too.
Native English speaker and somewhat proficient in Spanish. I'm always up for learning more languages, especially if it helps me communicate with you or your loved ones better.
I was formerly pre-health (medical/dental) and then switched to project management because it has allowed me to continue working with and spending time with my family.
Twenty years from now, when those family opportunities are less prevalent, I'll probably look to go back to school (ideally to study something to help reduce animal and/or environmental exploitation, although hopefully humans are no longer doing that 20 years from now :p) or look into more lucrative professional options (and donate any earnings beyond what I would hope to remain a fairly frugal lifestyle to high-impact charities promoting animal welfare.)
Those plans are definitely flexible, however, especially if that flexibility would help me to better support the happiness of a wonderful vegan partner :)

I've been vegan since 1999 and vegetarian for a year before that. The last time I at meat was Thanksgiving 1998 where I had an epiphany realizing the turkey symbolized the slaughter of the Native Americans.
I live in Guilin, China for most of the year and the other time is spent with my family in Northern Virginia, just outside DC. I enjoy listening to all types of music (esp. reggae, country, folk, dub, hip-hop, trance, jazz, jamband, classical, and anything mellow, headboppin, or foot-tappin). I watch lots of movies from around the world, read, read, read, play basketball and ultimate frisbee, dance like a madman hipster, practice yoga, study Chinese, hike, rock climb, cook vegan food, fast and cleanse.
Everyday I am asked about my beard, so I feel I should mention something here. I don't shave my legs, arms, chest, armpits, or any other region, so I don't feel a need to shave my face either. If my beard bothered me I would shave, but it doesn't and I like it- I like natural things. I was raised Jewish but I'm not religious, so in no way is the beard attached to religion. I see my beard as a flag of peace that waves whenever I enter a new situation, letting people know that I am a chill, down-to-earth kind of guy. (tragically some other folks with beards take the fanatical stance rather than the chill). Would I shave my beard? Short answer- yes, but at present time I have no reason to.
My ideal town would be a green one with only renewable energy used. It would be designed around walking and bicycling with a minimal use of alternative fuel cars inside the town and all trips outside of town would be with renewable energy. Young and old would feel safe to walk the streets alone at anytime of the day or night. (I like that in Guilin children can go out on their own, unlike where I grew up). Farms would be an integral part of the town and most food would be locally grown and delivered by bike; other shipments would use renewable energies. Arts would abound and people from many cultures would live together in harmony. Live music would flow from street corners and plazas throughout the day and night. There would be weekly festivals of all sorts. There would be town wide costume and theme days. Most large possessions would be communal and there would be lots of public land and parks. All wastes would be composted and returned into the system. Education would always be free. There would be no fences. And, of course, everything would be vegan

An Old-School Romantic, looking for my lady love. Biography: A long and winding road. .Rural Texas upbringing. UTAustin, intending to be a physicist, but it was the late sixties and there were lots of distractions going by, many of which were wearing very tiny skirts, so, long story short, a stint in San Francisco and Berkeley as a charter member of the Hippies, and then an extended second act as an engineer running my small SoCal firm until, yippie, retirement. Please tell me I won't be putting "The End" up yet.
I believe that the physical Universe has an associated mentality, and have always felt that spirituality was my vocation, and engineering just my avocation. I believe that all consciousness is One, and had a motto placed on my bank checks stating that "Animals are our equals, there is no Master Race". But I think the established religions are just power freaks wanting an exclusive franchise on something powerful, and the whole New Age thing was too unscientific for me, although I LOVE New Agers, in general, with their fine states of consciousness making their superstitions not a turn off, in spite of their illogic. I have a country home polished over the decades to be just what I want, and, frankly, I stay at home a lot, surrounded by my own forest. Not agoraphobic, no fear of leaving ... but I have been Home, and I have been to numerous other places, and there really is no place like Home.
My favorite activity is singing. I recorded 15 songs onto a CD, as a Bucket List item. ... Oh, and I roast my own beans from the world's finest varieties and brew a quite unique creation of my own, which I call EspressoSanDiego. So if you take coffee as seriously as some do, I may have suddenly gone near the top of your list.
PS please do not let my age deter you ... I look quite a bit younger than what you would expect from a guy born in the first half of the 20th Century, and I'm not certain I ever matured emotionally beyond fourteen, or at least that's how old I see myself. Still fourteen.
