I'm retired, vegetarian since 1994, care about my health and the that of the planet and it's inhabitants. I'm non-materialistic, a skilled craftsman, adore animals, love to be outdoors exploring the Earth and it's cultures. Quiet and laid-back, lean toward the road less traveled and anti-technology in some ways. Forests, quiet coastlines, deserts, hot springs, streams and waterfalls, modern progressive cities, I love to explore off the 'beaten path'. I'm open to relocating (especially outside the USA!), and the ideal life would include a peaceful, quiet, private rural location, a few companion animals, a big organic garden, and plenty of free time to enjoy life and to travel. Our Life would be centered around living and enjoyment--being active in biking, hiking, kayaking, snow sports, or any combination involving exploration of culture and the world. Since retiring in 2020 I have filled some of my time with Australian Shepherd rescue and fostering, currently five in my home only one is a foster. ;)

I grew up in Ohio and lived in Utah and California before moving to New York and recently moved back to Ohio. I have been vegan since September 2008 (vegetarian about a year and a half before switching). I have worked helping animals for the past 13+ years. I started as an adoption counselor at a humane society in Ohio, than a dog caregiver at a large sanctuary in Utah, and for over 8 years I was a caregiver for farm animals at a sanctuary. I have a degree in Criminal Justice, but after a few years realized that helping animals was the direction I wanted to go with my career and life, and I haven't had any regrets. I have one four legged child who runs my life (no two legged ones for me). When I am not taking care of the animals at work or my girl at home, I enjoy spending time outside going for walks, hikes and biking. When I just feel like staying around the house I enjoy reading and watching movies.

I became widowed and retired at about the same time. I really did not have a plan or thought about this circumstance I find myself in. I have avoided eating animals for going on 15 years now. When I considered meeting new people, I found that I am not interested in building new friendships or bonding with people that do not share my thoughts and beliefs about plant-based eating. I am nearly 70, so why waste the effort. I have old friends who just think I'm weird, and have known me long enough to be accepting of my quirks, being vegan is just another one. When I thought about dating again, I decided they must be plant-based, vegan or vegetarian. My sweet wife was all of those at different times. Animal welfare/animal rights are extremely important to me. Over the years, I have also rescued and provided hospice care for senior dogs and cats. What you see is what you get, but you also get so much more than appearances suggest! I am comfortable in my own skin. I know and like who I am. I spend a lot of time outdoors. I kayak, hike, bike, birdwatch, and love meeting all my wild neighbors. The year before Covid I also started taking surfing lessons.
I write and advocate for causes I care about and have had some successes. The circus no longer comes to my town, there's a beautiful preserved forest that does NOT have a cell phone tower, there's a large city park where ALL smoking is banned.....
My favorite issues are environmental, animal rights, and those concerning poverty and human rights. I think in another life I must have been a peasant in a peasant uprising.
This might seem odd but for fun I collect trash. My kayak often looks more like a garbage scow as I gather plastics and other trash while kayaking on the river and at the beach. I mostly just find trash but I've found some interesting stuff too, including something the bomb squad had to blow up on the spot. I'm still waiting to find either a briefcase full of half a million dollars of drug money no one claims or a chest of pirate's treasure sticking half out of a sandbar.
I love gardening... for wildlife, for food, for beauty, organically, and with native plants.
I enjoy a variety of things and am always eager to learn new ones. I'm open to suggestions.....
