I grew up in Ohio and lived in Utah and California before moving to New York and recently moved back to Ohio. I have been vegan since September 2008 (vegetarian about a year and a half before switching). I have worked helping animals for the past 13+ years. I started as an adoption counselor at a humane society in Ohio, than a dog caregiver at a large sanctuary in Utah, and for over 8 years I was a caregiver for farm animals at a sanctuary. I have a degree in Criminal Justice, but after a few years realized that helping animals was the direction I wanted to go with my career and life, and I haven't had any regrets. I have one four legged child who runs my life (no two legged ones for me). When I am not taking care of the animals at work or my girl at home, I enjoy spending time outside going for walks, hikes and biking. I travel lightly. My home looks like I just moved in. As I deal in product I don't need much stuff. Easier to stay organized that way.
Putzing around a calm home helps me relax. I read, mess with the cat, take hot baths, drink a cup of tea, light a candle, catch a drama, documentary, Westworld, Indie or a foreign flick. I'm generally in bed early so I can work out the next day. For health and sanity.
I grew up internationally. SF is my home town - having lived here for 25 years - but high on my list is to visit Scandinavia part of the year. My parents are aging and my son lives there. It's a pretty nice place to be from... I would love to see more of the world as well. Searching for the next place to eat, finding street food, following in the footsteps of Haruki Murakami's and absorb the local culture from a cafe chair is good enough for me.

I'm native to the Gulf Coast, descended from upstate farmers who called vegetables "what food eats". I still have some of the farm, now growing longleaf pines, hardwoods and wildlife.
I am a Southern Baptist refugee, Buddhist after Episcopal experience, and won't argue or disrespect anyone's (non-violent) beliefs. I was introduced to Zazen meditation by a Jesuit priest, and have practiced for years. I have long pondered philosophical questions (still do), and intend to continue my quest to be confused at a higher level (e.g. from epistemology to ontology).
I went to college for engineering, and worked with computers in many industries and several countries, and have traveled for fun and romance.

Since my best friend, Dougald, left this world on June 28th this year,
My sadness hasn't diminished even a single day.
But the times of sadness have gradually decreased.
Most of us have feelings.
When we're sad, we don't need to resist it,

This experience of losing a dear friend
Has made me feel immense regret for his short life!
Because he was such a kind person!
Many say that for every effect, there's a cause.
Perhaps his early passing was due to this causal relationship.
I understand very well how the law of attraction works.
When you're happy,
The vibration you emit attracts things related to happiness.
When you're sad, you attract similar things that make you sad.
When you're angry, you attract similar things that make you angry.
... and so on.
So, to have a fulfilling life, the vibration you emit is crucial!
You can be sad, but don't let it persist for too long.

Most people don't know how to control their emotions.
If you could handle it with a relaxed attitude, they wouldn't affect you.
Impermanence is a normal part of life; there's no need to lament it.
The important thing is to accept impermanence and strive to do what you love.

Humor is so important because it engenders and represents hope, something we all need. And no one has ever died of laughter. Is that what's meant by "humoral immunity"? ;)
Strive to live a simple, nonmaterialistic, meaningful, and purposeful life. I'm a Luddite at heart, reminiscing about the halcyon days when we weren't overdependent on technology. I embrace sechel, not artificial intelligence, and modesty, not social media. 不患莫己知，求为可知也。"Don't fret about not being well-known; instead, strive to be worthy of being known" (Analects, book 4, verse 14). Jewish ideals inform and guide in all aspects of life. These include honesty and evenhandedness, including not saying anything essentially true but meant to mislead (as in PR/marketing/media); not hurting people's feelings or saying negative things about them; giving others the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to do the right thing; having a higher purpose in life, including work; and learning for the sake of learning, including from everyone! But people with similar values come from many paths in life, the ultimate expression of which is being a mensch or, as Confucius termed it, a junzi, someone who sets an example through his or her actions, which speak louder than words.
Enjoy hiking, being in nature, lizard-watching, learning, artistic creativity, and dry and waggish humor (but not sarcasm). Introverted and sometimes lost in thought, but hopefully thoughtful in more ways than one! Look for ways to help others while avoiding self-serving feelings like validation and pride. Adventurous but also risk-averse.
Love the natural environment in which I live, but the beauty of any place derives mainly from who's around you. Very willing to relocate.
