I don't mind spending some time in the kitchen… but it’s more fun cooking with a friend! I love trying out new recipes, but a few favorites include: hoisin-mustard tofu lettuce wraps, tofu bahn mi, sweet potato and black bean enchiladas, zucchini malai kofta, roasted Brussels sprouts, and I make a mean tofu scramble. My current obsession is Indian food. I don't love doing the dishes. :p
Recently I've discovered the joy of living minimalisticly. I've learned that letting go of things that no longer serve me leads to serenity.
I'm a small business owner and I LOVE my profession. It makes me INCREDIBLY HAPPY... but sometimes (mostly seasonally) I work insanely long hours, and I need someone who is understanding of this. I don't see myself relocating my business.
Life is good. :) I have small close group of lifelong friends that are my chosen family. Several of them are vegan who also love to cook, so our gatherings always include lots of vegan food. Together we often enjoy board games, card games, escape rooms, bocce, and campfires.
A few of years ago I met a small group of compassionate people through a mindfulness based meditation group. Together we started a small community giving-garden. It's a project that is close to my heart, and I donate time there at least once a week sometimes more. I love getting my hands in the dirt, learning about gardening, and donating the fruits of our labor to feed the hungry.

I grew up in Ohio and lived in Utah and California before moving to New York and recently moved back to Ohio. I have been vegan since September 2008 (vegetarian about a year and a half before switching). I have worked helping animals for the past 13+ years. I started as an adoption counselor at a humane society in Ohio, than a dog caregiver at a large sanctuary in Utah, and for over 8 years I was a caregiver for farm animals at a sanctuary. I have a degree in Criminal Justice, but after a few years realized that helping animals was the direction I wanted to go with my career and life, and I haven't had any regrets. I have one four legged child who runs my life (no two legged ones for me). When I am not taking care of the animals at work or my girl at home, I enjoy spending time outside going for walks, hikes and biking. I like to be active and keep in decent shape; not buff, but not pudgy either… kind of a happy medium! I like to do things outdoors and be active, but I have to admit I can Netflix Binge with the best of them, or spend an entire day moving from couch, to chair, to lawn chair, to bed, and back to the couch reading good a book. I’m pretty middle of the road politically. I used to lean more to the right, but now lean more to the left. I strongly believe in doing what we can to minimize climate change. I spend most of my time in El Paso where i work, but also own a home in Albuquerque where my two of my children live. I visit them every few months. I also have a daughter in Minneapolis and a son in Virginia Beach who I visit once or twice a year. I would love to travel more but work gets in the way. My ‘plan’ is to cut back to 20 hrs/week at age 62 and I’m on track to meet that goal. I’m excited and apprehensive about it at the same time. I sooo want to work less, but I sooo sooo don’t want to be bored. I think going part-time will be a good stepping stone for me, and will give me more time to travel. In the meantime, I’m just enjoying my job and interacting with my clients and co-workers and visiting my kiddos when I can.
