Good times are even better when shared with a great partner. Some of my favorite things to do are spending time outdoors, going to the beach (especially in the morning or evening), checking out the night sky, taking walks, hiking, running, working out, practicing martial arts, reading, learning new things, and listening to music. I try to maintain a healthy (whole food plant-based) diet most of the time and enjoy cooking and going out to dinner. I love exploring the Island's beaches, parks, and seaside towns and villages, and I definitely prefer the warmer weather to the cold. I'm very happy to go out for the evening as well as to stay in and have a nice night at home.

I lived and was raised in the rural area of Muscatine, IA (from 1954-1974) along the Mississippi River where most of the food we ate was organic (before it actually became labeled organic as it is now) and drank free, unfiltered spring-fed water (before bottled water got popular) while growing up…FYI, I was one of the last of the fortunate school kids to have attended real, authentic one-room country schoolhouses with a real outhouse(!), outdoor hand-pump for well water, the school bell to ring, the American flag to raise and actually SAY the pledge of allegiance to the American flag inside and say the Lord's Prayer all together…Wonderful, cherished, youthful memories...

I love to travel, too, (at least I did before the pandemic) and have been to Europe (many times), Costa Rica, Thailand, Japan, and Hawaii. I am not at all religious, but I have a longstanding interest in Buddhism as both philosophy and practice.

I spend a lot of time outdoors. I kayak, hike, bike, birdwatch, and love meeting all my wild neighbors. The year before Covid I also started taking surfing lessons.
I write and advocate for causes I care about and have had some successes. The circus no longer comes to my town, there's a beautiful preserved forest that does NOT have a cell phone tower, there's a large city park where ALL smoking is banned.....
My favorite issues are environmental, animal rights, and those concerning poverty and human rights. I think in another life I must have been a peasant in a peasant uprising.
This might seem odd but for fun I collect trash. My kayak often looks more like a garbage scow as I gather plastics and other trash while kayaking on the river and at the beach. I mostly just find trash but I've found some interesting stuff too, including something the bomb squad had to blow up on the spot. I'm still waiting to find either a briefcase full of half a million dollars of drug money no one claims or a chest of pirate's treasure sticking half out of a sandbar.
I love gardening... for wildlife, for food, for beauty, organically, and with native plants.
I enjoy a variety of things and am always eager to learn new ones. I'm open to suggestions.....

I love to dance to uplifting stuff ( eg 'The Gypsy Kings ) ,but I love beautiful classical music - my favourite piece is Camille Saint-Saens piano concerto No.2 in G minor - sometimes majestic, sometimes playful ( as in the 2nd movement) ! I had piano lessons as a child and reached a pretty good standard - then 'life' took over , though I'm determined to start playing again.
