After undergrad engineering degree from India, I came to this country for graduate studies and completed a PhD in Chemical Engineering. While in college fell in love with a vibrant Hong Kong girl, we got married and settled in this country. We had mostly a good life, I retired in 2017 but continued working as a part time consulting engineer till I was diagnosed with cancer in April 2022. About the same time wife was operated for Meningioma brain tumor that usually are benign. But her turned out to be rare aggressive type that took her away December 2024. I was lucky as an experimental immunotherapy treatment worked for me, now in remission June 2022. I am blessed to be given a second chance in life, want to start living a full life and seeking a life partner.

I'm a big time animal lover and have adopted numerous rescue dogs over the years. I like dogs because they accept you the way you are and don't judge you like humans do. I'm currently dog-less because I'm having difficulty getting over the death of my last dog, Rusty, who had a very sad life and tragic death. Life really isn't fair.
US politics turn me off because, even though the two parties bicker relentlessly with each other, they both come together when it comes to supporting the Empire's endless war efforts. I'm a pacifist so I oppose all military actions and guns/weapons. I oppose imperialism and feel this world is here for all of us to share, not for one country to dominate.
I'm a conscientious person paying attention to the most minute detail of the tasks I tackle; as a result they usually don't get done very quickly. I enjoy playing classical guitar, doing computer graphics, collecting and restoring vintage bicycles, going on fast bike rides, baking whole grain bread, and fixing up old cars. I much prefer old things to new things because old things are so much better quality and have more character.
In terms of my appearance I'm a very modest person and don't believe in tattoos or other such things to draw attention to myself. I try to keep myself clean and well groomed. I tend to be bit of a germ freak, which probably isn't such a bad thing nowadays given most peoples' lack of interest in controlling contagious diseases.
I'm allergic to cats, and I still have to take Covid-19 precautions due to being in a high risk category for serious disease (according to the CDC). I have an interest in staying as healthy and physically fit as possible.

Music is important in my life - rarely a day goes by when I don't listen to music of one kind or another - from rock to classical - feel blessed to have grown up in the Beatles era. I love to dance to uplifting stuff ( eg 'The Gypsy Kings ) ,but I love beautiful classical music - my favourite piece is Camille Saint-Saens piano concerto No.2 in G minor - sometimes majestic, sometimes playful ( as in the 2nd movement) ! I had piano lessons as a child and reached a pretty good standard - then 'life' took over , though I'm determined to start playing again.

As a child, walks in the park with my father lead me understand that animals aren't our playthings. From that, I decided that it was wrong to test on them, but somehow it didn't occur to me to also question eating them. But now I've been (mostly) vegan now for two decades. (I say "mostly" because I still will sometimes have cheese, such as when I'm at a restaurant without dairy-free alternatives.)
I'm fortunate that my career enables me to promote my values while using my sense of curiosity, my impulse for creativity, and my desire to socialize. Because of all that, I tend to be a pretty upbeat and positive person.
I like to explore and learn about new things (especially when they are a bit quirky), so I enjoy museums and architecture tours. But I also enjoy browsing book stores, thrift shops, flea markets -- and casual walks in forest preserves. (Bonus points if if a deer shows up!) For a more low-key form of downtime, I like conversations or snuggling on a couch to watch a movie or TV show. (Some favorite shows: The West Wing, The Newsroom, Downton Abbey, Great British Bake Off.)

I like to be active and keep in decent shape; not buff, but not pudgy either… kind of a happy medium! I like to do things outdoors and be active, but I have to admit I can Netflix Binge with the best of them, or spend an entire day moving from couch, to chair, to lawn chair, to bed, and back to the couch reading good a book. I’m pretty middle of the road politically. I used to lean more to the right, but now lean more to the left. I strongly believe in doing what we can to minimize climate change. I spend most of my time in El Paso where i work, but also own a home in Albuquerque where my two of my children live. I visit them every few months. I also have a daughter in Minneapolis and a son in Virginia Beach who I visit once or twice a year. I would love to travel more but work gets in the way. My ‘plan’ is to cut back to 20 hrs/week at age 62 and I’m on track to meet that goal. I’m excited and apprehensive about it at the same time. I sooo want to work less, but I sooo sooo don’t want to be bored. I think going part-time will be a good stepping stone for me, and will give me more time to travel. In the meantime, I’m just enjoying my job and interacting with my clients and co-workers and visiting my kiddos when I can.
