I guess it is a universal truth that greater joy may be found in giving than receiving, perhaps even more so for an Irish man when it comes to personal compliments! If I were to dig deep into my archive, I might find words such as kind, thoughtful, affectionate, understanding, genuine, funny, and a real pet. The latter term, I prefer to reserve for my fur pal Oscar! True to my roots, however, I could describe myself as somewhat reserved and cautious, a perfectionist to some degree, slightly anxious at times yet, rather like a swan, appearing graceful on the surface while paddling (unseen) like anything underwater! I enjoy music, be it in a live setting or recorded setting at home. If I have to drive an hour to go skiing, the carbon I spew forth foreshortens our wonderful winters, kills the awesome spruces growing on the sides of the mountains I love, and terrorizes the polar bears and other critters that do not just enjoy the snow, but absolutely depend on it. That stinks; what to do? Keep thinking, undertake different approaches, keep trying to figure out a better way, keep pushing to improve, and never lose hope!
I enjoy the company of those who recognize such contradictions, but are not paralyzed by them. I seek the company of those who live their lives with intention - in all areas. I try to, but, of course, it is a process. The more we pull on the threads, the more we realize how stitched together everything is.
I spend time with all sorts of dogs, but I am a huge fan of beagles. They are super inquisitive, and pretty much do all their thinking for themselves. If given the opportunity, they can and will run and play all day, and yet they are also ready to flop down for a nap at a moment's notice. They are far from picky eaters, happy-go-lucky, low-maintenance, very expressive, and full of laughs. At night, all they want is to be right by your side! How can you beat that! And that is me in a nutshell (of course, I have opposable thumbs which are of most help)! I am pretty high energy; I do not own a TV because I am always off doing things or being inquisitive. Some love fancy restaurants, but I am very happy with a big bowl of healthy chow (if fancy restaurants served big bowls of healthy chow, I would be all in, but they rarely do)!
I tend to want to/need to move just about every day, whether it is running, biking, swimming, skiing, hiking, or anything else that requires big gulps of air. But I also want to have some positive influence on the world. I lead a busy work and after-work life involved in a number of issues. It really is important to keep pushing to figure out better ways to improve our world, and also to remain eternally optimistic while doing so.

I just don't see myself loving someone who doesn't care about killing / eating animals. For many of us, being a veggie is so much more than simply a diet.
I'm a former airline pilot changing careers (not by choice). My highly profitable airline was bought out, suddenly unexpectedly closed, the airline pilot retirement age was raised from 60 to 65 (no attrition for five years), and the economy was horrible. I sure miss flying the Boeing 727...the feeling of 48,000 pounds of thrust at my fingertips is difficult to duplicate! The beauty of the Earth from above is so breathtaking. A scratch in my eye from a brand new contact lens has cost me the career I so enjoyed. I went back to school and obtained my LPN, but have not used it yet due to a number of family tragedies. I had been taking care of my vegan Mom full time. Congestive heart failure is no fun. She fought a valiant battle, but is no longer with me. Now I am working on getting my house ready for sale to move into my parents (a few acres and a swimming pool).
I love music - tastes range from classical to oldies (Sinatra) to alternative, but I especially enjoy acoustic Latin / Mediterranean guitar. Hammocks - such a simple invention, but so relaxing! Canoeing, boating, bicycling, experiencing nature, tennis, or even throwing a Frisbee are all fun fair weather activities.
Based on my profile, you probably wouldn't guess I love to laugh, and joke around often. Sometimes my delivery is too dry for people to realize I'm joking...love watching the five second delay as someone gets it! I also enjoy a nice cuddle, going for walks, deep, and not so deep discussions.

US politics turn me off because, even though the two parties bicker relentlessly with each other, they both come together when it comes to supporting the Empire's endless war efforts. I'm a pacifist so I oppose all military actions and guns/weapons. I oppose imperialism and feel this world is here for all of us to share, not for one country to dominate.
I'm a conscientious person paying attention to the most minute detail of the tasks I tackle; as a result they usually don't get done very quickly. I enjoy playing classical guitar, doing computer graphics, collecting and restoring vintage bicycles, going on fast bike rides, baking whole grain bread, and fixing up old cars. I much prefer old things to new things because old things are so much better quality and have more character.
In terms of my appearance I'm a very modest person and don't believe in tattoos or other such things to draw attention to myself. I try to keep myself clean and well groomed. I tend to be bit of a germ freak, which probably isn't such a bad thing nowadays given most peoples' lack of interest in controlling contagious diseases.
I'm allergic to cats, and I still have to take Covid-19 precautions due to being in a high risk category for serious disease (according to the CDC). I have an interest in staying as healthy and physically fit as possible.
