Updating this section years later - originally I said that I was intelligent, quirky, messy and that I don't "go with the flow". That has not changed. What may have changed is that I have greater understanding of some of the reasons.
I would hope that everybody becomes wiser as they get older and gains greater self-awareness, though I think that it's also easy to become cynical and develop anxiety or fears (or develop other adaptations) that affect your day-to-day existence simply because the longer you are alive, the more likely that you have accumulated bad memories from what you have witnessed, and what you have experienced of the negative realities of our world.
As for me, I am wiser though I still have a long way to go. I'm still curious and mercurial which is not conducive to being organized, and I do pay the price for that. I think it helps me in other ways to keep myself from depression. I have very strong emotions and yet a really logical and analytical backbone which are often at battle.
I hate writing about myself, but as I just demonstrated, I can get carried away in spite of myself, so it's a good spot to stop and mention some of the more surface things, like...
My big focus right now is spending time outdoors where I live. It's rural, there's field, there's forest, there is always something to discover, from identifying plant life (which unfortunately includes battling some pretty aggressive invasive plants) and animal life, to weird insects and various other critters. Sitting amongst the tall grass knowing that I can't even be seen from the road is magical for some reason.
I have worked in technology (IT) for many years, yet I have to admit some of the magic is not there like it used to be. There are some ideas I had for projects that I am keen on if I can figure out a way to fit that in with the other things that dominate my time, without dropping the ball on one of them ...
Animal rescue/providing care/reducing suffering/promoting well-being. This is often painful, often sad, but it's what I value the most.

Scary picture eh? Despite this appearance, I am not Rasputin and I have been known to smile (often). Someone pointed out that a picture is important and this is the only recent one that fitted the sites criteria. I do have a beard at the moment but it will probably come off in the winter.

I'm a country boy, love animals, own a small farm, or what's left of one. Very honest, loving, caring, romantic & affectionate. If u don't like being smothered with love & affection u won't like me very much. I also collect & polish my own crystals & stones. I'm into natural healing & have practiced some forms of spiritual healing as well. Have an adult son with whom I am quite close, but we live very separate lives & do not interfere with one another in any way. I do have a couple of pets now that were rescue animals. Lucy, she's a mouse. I rescued her from the bottom of a bucket when she was a little baby, lying on her side with her mouth open & couldn't even close it. Thought she was already dead & dumped the bucket & she wiggled little her feet & something pushed me to bring her in, put a drop of water in her mouth & set her near the fireplace, as she was nearly frozen & dehydrated. She's over 4 yrs old now, the average life of a mouse is only 2. She's content & responsive even tho I can't handle her, but she does take treats from my fingers thru the cage. (Update: Lucy died in October 2014, 2 months before she would've been 5 yrs old. she is missed). Then I have Skeeter, a little fuzzy dog, chihuahua & Cairn terrier. He's really cute & couldn't be much sweeter if he likes u. Came to me cause he didn't like his previous home with a dopehead & thief and wouldn't go home - nearly 10 years ago. I like a bit more freedom to travel than I have with pets, but if u have pets or if u don't that's OK with me, not a deal breaker by any means. Now I have 1 outdoor cat. I wear some leather but it's usually purchased 2nd-hand, so patronizing recycling & re-use, not death. I'm also a passionate dancer & have a wonderful circle of friends at the dances I attended weekly before the pandemic. Been doing karaoke some years & now passionate about singing too ;)

A few words that would describe me are: Adventurous, Spontaneous, Curious, full of energy.. Im the guy that usually brings a cloth bag to go grocery shopping, to save a tree. Other interests include outdoor interests including hiking, mountain biking, rollerblading, kneeboarding, snow skiing, rock climbing.. I also enjoy researching and learning about subjects that interest me. Im like a sponge and like to soak up information.
