I am a creative person, trying (belatedly!) to pursue an art career having previously worked in communications for the Vegetarian Society and a Community Forest. I have a beautiful 12 year old son who is with me 60% of the week, and a curmudgeonly 12 year old dog. This pair have kept me sane as a single person for the last 8 years, but I'm now feeling the need to connect with someone closer to my age - and with similar values.
Although I'm a long time vegan, I am not involved in any activism. apart from painting, I enjoy walking, reading (I'm drawn to literature with an existential perspective) and listening to music. My music taste is quite eclectic, but I like stuff with a funky groove, A touch of edginess and some big feelings. (Talking Heads has been a consistent favourite since I discovered them age 9).

I just don't see myself loving someone who doesn't care about killing / eating animals. For many of us, being a veggie is so much more than simply a diet.
I'm a former airline pilot changing careers (not by choice). My highly profitable airline was bought out, suddenly unexpectedly closed, the airline pilot retirement age was raised from 60 to 65 (no attrition for five years), and the economy was horrible. I sure miss flying the Boeing 727...the feeling of 48,000 pounds of thrust at my fingertips is difficult to duplicate! The beauty of the Earth from above is so breathtaking. A scratch in my eye from a brand new contact lens has cost me the career I so enjoyed. I went back to school and obtained my LPN, but have not used it yet due to a number of family tragedies. I had been taking care of my vegan Mom full time. Congestive heart failure is no fun. She fought a valiant battle, but is no longer with me. Now I am working on getting my house ready for sale to move into my parents (a few acres and a swimming pool).
I love music - tastes range from classical to oldies (Sinatra) to alternative, but I especially enjoy acoustic Latin / Mediterranean guitar. Hammocks - such a simple invention, but so relaxing! Canoeing, boating, bicycling, experiencing nature, tennis, or even throwing a Frisbee are all fun fair weather activities.
Based on my profile, you probably wouldn't guess I love to laugh, and joke around often. Sometimes my delivery is too dry for people to realize I'm joking...love watching the five second delay as someone gets it! I also enjoy a nice cuddle, going for walks, deep, and not so deep discussions.

Having just read my previous profile I wonder how I ever came to write those words. What mood was I in when I woke that morning? However, this is me today, writing a brief account of myself - not easy!! Tomorrow, who knows - quiet, joyful, pensive, thoughtful, happy, sad, funny, silly, confident- sometimes not so. What do they say about variety?
Having reached some degree of maturity(not quite 100)and looked at myself from many angles, and tried to view myself through other peoples eyes, I may now be qualified to give some sort of account of myself.
Although life has not always been easy,I am naturally happy and optimistic. Understanding and appreciating rather than criticising. Smiling and laughing - especially at myself - rather than looking at life from a grim perspective.
Always the adventurous explorer -yes still,not yet ready to accept limitations - I like discovering and learning about new places, people/cultures, ideas. I enjoy/appreciate the arts. Love nature in all it's diversity - and of course animals.
